"Challenge the audience"
one of the dumbest fucking comments i've ever heard. why should anybody have to "challenge" their own taste in music? what he's essentially saying is force yourself to like or fuck off. he should have said something to the effect of "give it a chance" but challenge yourself? i dont get it.
Every belief should be challenged. If you only ever listen to one type of music, how could you know you don't like anything else?
He's not saying 'force yourself to like it or fuck off', he's saying give it a chance. There's always the option of going to the concessions or taking a piss during 50's performance. I certainly did that during Saving Abel and Papa Roach's sets at one of the concerts I went to.
I think good music does in a certain sense challenge the audience. (not that I am saying either of these acts produces really good music) GNR did it with UYI. Before that, people rocked out to PC, WTTJ and SCOM. Then GNR come out with November Rain and Estranged and people are a little taken back at first. They challenged their audience.
