Hastings exists on the west coast?? Wow. Had no idea. I remember Hastings when I lived in Missouri back in the mid 90s. They had 49 cent movie rentals, and new releases were $1.49 for 2 days.

They actually pushed that Sympathy for the Devil disc pretty hard. Had a huge rack of them near the front of the store with other hot selling mainstream acts of the time(Live, Hole, etc.). They were also selling the Japanese import of Soundgarden's Superunknown album.

Yeah, we have like 3 or 4 Hastings in my town over here.  It's a really nice store.  Their porn sucks though. 16

It's a little bit harder to find imported stuff, but i've found imported singles before from Velvet Revolver.

They also usually have a few Buckethead albums which is really rare for most stores around my area.

Give me a minute: so the Best Buy deal wasn't selling out?

A whole different beast, marketing approach, etc.  The Wal Mart blitz for ACDC is hyper-commercialized product & brand marketing.  Wal Mart has a cheap retail stench, that Best Buy does not have.  My point is the hyper-marketing of ACDC (t-shirts, etc) when going into a Wal Mart seems to reduce the value of the music--it is now just another cheap product as opposed to a valuable album. GNR laying low, to me, has maintained some form of integrity, and not allowed the brand to become "Wal Marterized".  Again, when I see every moron in the world now wearing ACDC gear from Wal Mart, to me it seems like it's over commercialized.

Alright. I agree that the AC/DC-Wal-Mart deal was selling-out, but I think the same about the GN'R-BB deal. That's about money and not art or integrity. The only difference is that AC/DC's selling-ot was successful in every aspect and even above of that, while GN'R only got the money, but people didn't really buy the record.

I still don't get this new debate like Guns N' Roses would be some underground band. It's not underground, it's only disfunctional.

Re: Beating A Dead Horse

It is what it is, but trust me, when something becomes over-commercialized, it loses it's luster quickly.  When I see yuppie 13 year olds, moms, dads, and families in ACDC gear, I know that the product has become too mainstream, and lost it's credibility.  Over-saturated, commercialized shit.  I like it that I don't see yuppie wanna-be's decked out in GNR gear, like that makes them somehow cool.  ACDC, via Wal Mart, is turning into the Jonas Brothers--another temporary fad used to grab $$$.  What's next ACDC golf balls, and polo shirts pushed by Wal-Mart?

I didn't read past the first few posts because I'd really like to point out that promo and hype and two totally different things. The "promo" many are insisting this album had for a decade or so before it dropped is really hype. Now hype can be a good or bad thing, but it wasn't promo. It wasn't a conscious effort on the record label or band's part to consistently PROMOTE this album via advertisements, commercials, videos, etc. The only promo you could argue was two awkward tours spread across four or five years and they only really served as a greatest hits package and (at least the second time around) were done to continue funding the still not finished album. This album received no promo before its release, whether that be a week before or a decade before. It's receiving no promo now. What it had going for or against it was hype. Please, learn the difference.

And I agree with Gunslinger's first post.

at the end of the day, there is no promo, not when it was released, not when the single was released, not when Better was released, there is nothing whatsoever.. Axl created this mess but his head is so far up his own ass he cant see anything but the best buy bucks
to me, for a GNR (the keyword) cd it hasnt sold shit like it should have.
Most the world know who Gnr are ffs, they hear em on the radio still, somoene always know someone who at least knows gnr.. It was hyped when it got played on radio here (first album in xxxx years for GNR)  played countless times and with some good feedback, along with bad, so at the end of the day, GNR sold what it was supposed to sell..
It doesnt help when he doesnt have an actual proper band to come out and talk about and promote it..

only mentioning this cause no one else did: it's the best selling cd at best buy cause they are the only carrying it, until now atleast.

obviously the best selling cd at wal mart would have provided more immediate success but if best buy really bought 1.3 million copies up front they will keep pushing it and eventually get rid of them one way or another.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADAGASCAR!!!
