"as far as geffen is concerned"
he's talking about best buy buying 1.3 up front. not all of them have found their way out of the warehouse yet but it's all the same to gnr/chinese democracy since they're already paid for.
if you're wanting to talk resale where the numbers turn to "success" - gnr still does 1.3 in the u.s. without packaging another disc and sending it to another distributer. best buy will get rid of those copies one way or another and gnr will eventually get credit for each and every one while best buy is stuck selling them at 5 dollars a piece.
Re: CD - One million copies sold
the money issue and investment issue is no longer a part of an intelligent discussion among fans. The Best Buy deal erased the 13million in one stroke of a pen. In any case, Axl's business dealings with Geffen have absolutely NOTHING to do with the art and the finished product and it's relation to the record buying public. Seriously, money is irrelevant to both parties in the long term. Fans have no business bitching about dollars spent that aren't theirs. Now, the length of time to record the album is different...whether or not you like the songs is different. It affects us, the consumer, and it affected the sales of Chinese. People simply got tired of waiting and that is a legitimate argument. People may not have liked the album and that is a legitimate argument....money invested between two rich entities is not.
