Re: Chinese Democracy UNDER 300,000 copies sold first week?
The guy at Wal-Mart is wrong. They still only stock censored CD's. At least in my area.
Speaking of which, I walked through Wal-Mart today, and there was AC/DC shit EVERYWHERE. Even now.
maybe its only in the US cuz my copy of CD has all the naughty words in it

Would he promote to simply make the label money? or scuttle the album and release the second album himself?
The problem is if CD is perceived to be a flop then the initial curiosity of CD isn't going to carry over to a second album. So again he'd essentially be shooting himself in the own foot.
I think the explanation is pretty simple. Axl is unhappy with the release and isn't bothering to promote it.
Even if he is just unhappy, he is shooting himself in the foot for any second album.
If he is truly angry that the label is taking so much off the top, he can bide his time, allow CD to undersell, then take the second CD of songs to any label or release them on his own terms.
What makes me lean toward this second possibility are a number of examples of weirdness with the final product: the booklet was so carelessly put together, six leaked songs appeared, and several production errors in the songs themselves. I never understood how so many mistakes could be made if this album has been in the works for so long. Perhaps no one properly finished it off.
In the words of Bono, all speculation on my part right now.
Axl's silence is speaking volumes right now. We just don't know how to translate it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but here's something we can all agree on:
Christina is alright but Britney beats her in my opinion. Better looking, better body, better dancer.

Wal-Mart demands an edited version of any album that has the "Parental Advisory" sticker on it.
That sticker is voluntary on the part of the record labels, and always has been. AC/DC has some raunch and I believe at least one s-bomb & one f-bomb over the course of their recorded output (Bon Scott era, I think). Yet: no sticker.

Spot on mate. The whole thing makes our minds overload because we can't find any good reasons for it. We thought: "Album out, boooom" and he didn't even show up!
And I can't find any good explenation.

Worse voice.
I'm not so thrilled by her look either.

Wouldn't you think that if this was truly the most anticipated album of all time, there would have been some lavish release party, with Axl and maybe even most of the musicians who've played on the album, plus the usual flotilla of Hollywood celebrities and hangers-on... Maybe make it some big Chinese themed party at Mann's Chinese Theater, with Chinese dancers on stripper poles or something. Invite E! and Entertainment Weekly, and all of the elements of the usual hype machine.
Instead, what do we get? A whole lotta nothin'.
The way I see it, there are three scenarios:
1) The reunion is a done deal and CD was released simply to get it out of the way.
2) Axl didn't feel the CD was ready, but was forced to release it anyway against his will because of the large amounts he owes the record company.
3) Axl has had a complete nervous breakdown and has locked himself in his mansion, cutting off all contact with the outside world.

4) All of the above. And there's a SWAT team involved.

Neither.
If I would take a guess, he just don't wanna play the game. He haven't played the game in a long time but we just figured he would do it again when CD was released.
He's so pissed off at the media he don't want anything to do with any of them and declines any approach on the basis of him being scared they will twist the article and make fun of him or create controversy and twisted truths. Most of the media got a thing with Axl Rose and he's the easiest target to make fun of and so he just shuts them out on the basis of "why play their game now when they've done nothing but shit against me for 15 years?".
I strongly doubt he had a nervous breakdown.
I doubt he thought the CD wasn't finished
And I really really doubt he's into a reunion either.
All of the ideas way too shallow and obvious for any of it to be close.
My idea isn't very water-tight either, but IMO it's better than the other three.
