The new band can't reunite as it was never a band in the first place. Can you say NIN anyone?

Actually, the new band can't reunite because they haven't broken up, unless I missed something.

Re: Surprise appearance at the AMA's?
I think the only way this new band could get some kind of credibility going is if they get Robin or Bucket back, or hell even Paul Tobias, as those 3 seem to have the most influence over the album guitar-wise.

I still think it's a damn shame if Robin has left to go back to NIN for good. Finally the album sees the light of day and he's not even there to get any recognition for it.

It's not like the guys who are still there are getting credit. Is the media talking about Stinson? No. Is the band playing anywhere or doing any interviews? No. If Robin was there nothing would change. He'd still be either disrespected or not mentioned at all.
It's not like NIN fans don't like him. They love him. He's probably pretty happy with the big paychecks, the big arenas, and the reliable and creative frontman.

Re: Surprise appearance at the AMA's?
If Slash got back in the band the 'average listener' would be a lot more likely to accept GNR. If bucket got back in the band - a selection of the hardcore fan base would be similarily thrilled.
However at this point I don't think these things need to happen for GNR to exist. The media knows its just Axl - people make comments about it - but if this album turns out to be a sales success. then he can quite easily tour with a new lineup. Bumble is still around - and he plays a massive part in these songs now.

Re: Surprise appearance at the AMA's?
Yeah but this silence is even bizarre for Axl.
The man was out promoting CD more in 2006, when the album wasn't coming out, then he is now that it is.
Something's up. Good or bad.
Agreed. It is kinda unusual. I can see the logic of those who say the long term plan of azoff etc is to release this, then reunion and watch the dollars role. But I also think the time isn't quite right for that - that needs to happen AFTER the CD dust settles...not at the same time - otherwise Axl's baby could get dismissed in the media. Surely if slash rejoined they'd endlessly talk about he doesn't play on the album. If a runion was so close - it would have made more sence to bring him in when robin left for NIN - have him redo robins solos in 2 weeks (which is the kind of insane recording thing he does) then release CD. That didn't happen. Which makes me think the difficulties between them still exist - and that a reuinion is somethign that will one day happen - but it's time isn't due for at least another couple of years.
More likely to me Axl is going to grab a new guitarist. Pull out a couple of surprise small but awesome shows a little like he did in 06 in NYC. Maybe a new tour - then watch and see if CD does the numbers he'd like. If it's sucessful we may see some of the other hundreds of songs he's written with pitman and others.

Will GUNS N' ROSES Make Surprise Appearance At AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS? - Nov. 23, 2008
Dominic Patten of Pop Culture Examiner reports that there is a very good chance you'll see GUNS N' ROSES onstage at the American Music Awards tonight (Sunday, November 23) on ABC.
"Axl [Rose] wants to be the conquering hero," says one "well-placed music industry source" who has worked closely with some of the biggest acts in the world including GUNS N' ROSES. "The timing of the show on the night he brings out his masterpiece ['Chinese Democracy'] is too good for him to pass up. He knows it's a good way to get in front of old and new fans in one swoop."
This wouldn't be the first time the new GUNS N' ROSES has tried this kind of surprise. Axl and his boys came out at the end of the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards to perform a medley of the band's hits.
The 2008 American Music Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be broadcast live tonight (Sunday, November 23) at 8/7c on ABC.
