Re: Guns N Roses on Universal Music Group Release List
Calling him a yes man isn't any more out of place than calling him a rock star.
This statement, in addition to your insinuation that Hootie and the Blowfish are a staples of modern rock radio, puts your credibility in grave danger. Tommy Stinson not only is a rock star, he is a natural rock star. For God's sake, he's played in two of the most influential bands of the last twenty years, and is on a few of the top 100 most influential rock albums (see The Replacements in wiki or google for a briefer) ever made. My God....

In the liner notes of the Replacements' compilation record, All For Nothing, Jim Dickinson, the producer of Pleased to Meet Me had this to say about Tommy: "I want to say this about Tommy: Some people say that Keith Richards is the embodiment of rock and roll. Well, I know `em both and I say it's Tommy Stinson. Keith is a cowboy, he goes back to Gene Autry. Tommy'”he goes back to Johnny Thunders. Tommy Stinson is rock and roll." Amen.
Not many people in rock and roll have as storied a past and as dramatic a career as Tommy Stinson. For starters, Tommy was a founding member of the über-influential band the Replacements at the age of thirteen! Check it again, do the math. Tommy was born in '66 and the band formed in '79. Not only that, he had to play an integral part in the firing of his older brother Bob from the band due to alcohol and drug addiction and also his resistance to go into a mainstream direction. Deal with that, Gallagher brothers! Setting aside the hypocrisy of a partying band from firing Bob (it's kinda like firing a pornstar for acquiring an STD), after the increasing commercialism of the music led to Paul Westerberg's solo career, brother Bob died at the age of 35. Tommy formed his own bands upon the demise of the `Mats, first Bash and Pop, and later Perfect. Today he is better known for backing up P. Diddy on the "All About the Benjamins" remix and for being the `replacement' bass player for the new incarnation of Guns `n' Roses. Whoa.

Re: Guns N Roses on Universal Music Group Release List
Wow! Talk about getting off subject! With the direction this thread has taken it only proves my points. NOBODY deep down believes CD is coming out this year. And second CD ain't coming out this year. What I'm waiting for now is what lameass excuse Axl will use this time. Now that could be very entertaining.
Well, we may be fans but we're not stupid enough to keep falling for the same shit every year. Most of us (on this forum) take the "I'll believe it when I see it on the store shelves" approach.

Re: Guns N Roses on Universal Music Group Release List
Everyone hoping for the album, should be rooting for a reunion--only with GNR... but this is the insane, inverse relationship point we are at. One thing is for sure, Axl is anti-establishment to the core, he truly does not give a shit about anything other than the music--he does not care about logical promotion plans, marketing, or what anyone thinks about him. That is actually quite noble, and I think a positive. I do think that rumors of Slash floating stuff that he has written past Axl may hold some validity, and I wonder if some tapes from not only a few songs from these sessions have been shared with Slash and Izzy, but also that 1995 Izzy/Duff tape has been reviewed by Axl , Iovine, and Azoff searching for a hit.
Bottomline, I am firmly in the camp that a reunion has to be promised to Universal, and an album of original material composed by the original members promised to Universal, for them to release CD. It's that simple, and it makes the most sense from a business standpoint. I do think Axl, Slash, Duff, and Izzy right now, in the back of their minds, want to show the world that Metallica is not the only hard rock band who can lay claim to the the throne! I am sure, Axl would love to share the stage with those guy's again, ruling the planet in front of sold out arenas every night! It is going to happen, and it's going to come out of left field, and every DJ, and hard rock fan in the world will rejoice. Axl will be forgiven, and the CD will be give a fair shake and be a success.
Re: Guns N Roses on Universal Music Group Release List
If not Izzy, then I'd need it to be Gilby. I personally wouldn't want Stinson in a "reunion."
I hope most of you took my predicted line up as the joke I intended it to be. Some of you took it not only a little too seriously, but started adding serious weight to a line up argument. That's just silly.
There is going to be a reunion. Fact. There's a reason the Guns camp is bumfucked as to how to promote Shackler's or this "impending" release of Chinese Democracy. I agree that the reunion is what'll ultimately see any form of release for Chinese Democracy. I also believe there are more clues to be found in the various VR tidbits that come out now and again, if only anyone ever visited that part of the forum. A lot of what's been going on with those guys is a smokescreen/safety net. The reason a new singer hasn't been announced is because they're hoping they won't need one. Mark my words.

Re: Guns N Roses on Universal Music Group Release List
I wonder if Slash's project is actually work on a GNR project. I have wondered for the past three or four months if top secret jams and recording has taken place. At a minimum, I think tapes of ideas have been shared, and stuff has been brought out of the vaults (1993-1997 recordings).
Re: Guns N Roses on Universal Music Group Release List
To reiterate, VR has a three album deal. So far, they've released two and are currently splintered and sans frontman. Axl is also obligated by Universal to release his own $13 million album. Before either one sees release, a reunion will have been solidified. Whether you see Chinese Democracy rush released to make way for a reunion announcement, to give VR time to fulfill their contract, or even released in some sort of retail exclusive box set that may or may not contain the GN'R name, you will see it soon. VR could just as easily shit out an awkward "greatest hits" (it's been done by lesser artists after only an album or two) or even a live disc at this point. Bottom line, there are loose ends to be tied up and the next official word you hear from either camp regarding their next move will be after a reunion has already happened behind the scenes.

LOL, a new singer that kicks the hell out of all the other singers they could potentially come up with (well, with the exception of someone like Cornell for instance). I hope it happens. I'd make damn sure to go to a concert, assuming they actually came to Texas under that scenario.

So the liner notes of an album he plays on and 2 guys at a GnR site say he's a rock star? I'm going to need a little bit better sources than that. Nice try, but he is not, nor was he ever a star. Therefore, by definition, he was never and never will be a rock star. Thank you and have a nice day.
I don't understand why the couple Stinson fans take that as an insult. There are very few true rock stars out there, and there might be a handful of them that play bass. Not being a rock star doesn't mean he sucks...it just means nobody (meaning the general public for the people waiting to pick this apart) knows who he is.
