Re: The X-FILES Thread
I was entertained because Ep3 was a throwback to the early seasons of the original series.
Most of those episodes weren't light toned. "War of the Coprophages", Jose Chung's From Outer Space", Humbug" weren't reflective of most of the show (written by this same writer though). The show still flirted with horror and was serious.
It didn't completely parody itself and was filmed very differently. Even season 5 when the show was well aware it was a "pop culture" thing , still done things seriously for the most part despite the more crazier stand alone stories.
This was definitely season 7, when the "hook" of the show is your tuning into see Mulder/Scully and the cast/crew have fun (we don't even need to bother trying).

Darin Morgan, right?
The show was serious but a bit oddball, too. Mulder collected porn early on, if memory serves me right.

Duchovny brags about having the largest porn collection in Hollywood.

The porn thing was a running joke for a fair few seasons.
& you're right it was a callback/throwback to the more lighthearted episodes. But it wasn't for me, I can take the self reverence but I can't really take the jokes. Like PaSnow says, there's room for that sorta ep in a full season it just felt a bit unnecessary given the timeframe of this run.
I didn't know there was a notion to do more after this run. They definitely should, even if it's not 24 episode seasons (definitely not if its 24 episode seasons). But an occasion 10-13 ep run would be great. It's the most fun thing on to atm for me.
Re: The X-FILES Thread
That was a bit of a mess by the end.
The monster of the week plot I mean. Or it especially. For like the first 30mins I enjoyed it.
Dunno..
Re: The X-FILES Thread
Yeah, last night's episode was about average, nothing special. Seemed like they tried to do too much with it.
i didn't mind the non-resolution, because many many "X-Files" episodes had no clear explanation for what we saw, but it was about half-mystery, half-drama with Scully's mom. The acting, however, remains solid. Gillian Anderson underrated in that respect.
Re: The X-FILES Thread
Yea I thought she was particularly strong in this episode. Especially because she had been getting stick from a friend of mine over her role in the recent bbc adaptation of war & peace. My friend said she thought Gillian Anderson was rubbish in it, but i thought she was brilliant in last nights X-Files (& was amazing in her role in Hannibal). So am maybe going to give war & peace a shot see what the fuss is about..
