They own their masters. Main reason they release such killer shit and all these various sets. They'll be unloading more in the coming years as well. They know there is tons of cash to be made with their vault, even at high prices.

Its time for all these legendary bands to unload vaults. if they don't, it'll get unloaded when they die and it wont be on their terms.

Metallica is doing it. Soundgarden is doing it. Springsteen is doing it. Time for GNR to drop the mystery act and start doing it.

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich spoke to Metal Forces about the progress of the recording sessions for the band's follow-up to 2008's "Death Magnetic" album. He said: "We're now coming towards the end of the musical creative process and we're starting to look ahead and the process of how we're gonna share this record with the universe."

He added: "The month of June is basically when we're gonna sit down and figure what we're gonna do with it all; what we're gonna call it and what's gonna be on it."

The new METALLICA album is being recorded at the band's headquarters in San Rafael, California with producer Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed "Death Magnetic".

"Greg Fidelman is 24/7 on this record and has been since last summer," said Ulrich. "He's doing an insanely great job and has been putting his heart and soul in it pretty much every waking moment of his life in helping us engineer and produce this record."

Although Ulrich was hopeful that METALLICA's new album would arrive in 2016, he was careful not to make any promises. "If the record doesn't come out this year, then it won't be because it's not done," he stated. "It will be because there's some sort of cosmic reason that it would be smarter to hold onto it until next year. But the record will be done this summer."

Rarely. The past five years the ONLY music I have purchased if memory serves me correctly are the Soundgarden album and box sets and Santigold's newest album. Santigold is such a small artist now I figured she deserved the support although she isn't very good anymore. I bought the SG stuff hoping that they'll keep unloading their vault as long as hardcores will continue to buy it.

There's really no point in buying music anymore. Has nothing to do with illegal downloading though. Streaming has changed how people get their music, movies, etc. It's also legal. I can pay 10 bucks a month for Rhapsody and have access to just about anything. Some artists wont allow their music to be streamed but this isn't going away. It's the future and as Dan Quayle said, the future is now.

Downloading from torrents or sites like megaupload is verging on extinction. It's not even convenient anymore like it used to be. You can stream something quicker than it takes to get the torrent link and you also don't need to risk getting any viruses on your pc or phone.

I still use torrents once in a blue moon and I notice how few seeders there are compared to a few years ago.

Man, this is turning into their own Chinese Democracy at this point.

Not really. Going by how many years between albums...sorta. That is the only similarity. There will NEVER be another Chinese Democracy by any band/artist. No one cares that much about music from any artist in this culture. You go that long without new material and it simply fades from the general public's mind and they quickly move on to something else.

Notice how nobody cares about CD II. It has never been mentioned in any of the articles the past year and will never be mentioned in the future either. I'm sure there will be interest in a GNR single or album in the coming years but nobody, not even the media, gives the tiniest of shits about that second album recorded a lifetime ago. To them it either doesn't exist because they never heard about it or they perceive it as mediocre shit left on the cutting room floor when the first CD was released.

Sounds liked this will be Metallica's last album. Hopefully they market it as such. As long as it has 1-2 strong singles, it'll be a nice way to wrap up their recording career.

I read this as a March/April 2017 release.  But yeah looking forward to it.  As James said, probably Metallica's last (real) album.  Ashame they took so long between records since St Anger but I think they just enjoy living their life now. Could've squeezed 1 myb 2 more in there but whatever.

Death Magnetic was the latest.. I think that was in 2008.   St. Anger is from 2003.    Still, 8 years between albums, I guess they weren't in a hurry to put this out.

Looking forward to it.

Don't quite agree with you there.
As long as there will be poor people piracy will find a way.
Thank's to the internet everyone wants to see/hear the 'it' think right when it's happening.
And if you can't afford it you pirate it.
It won't die that fast.

The funny thing about streaming, though, is that you pay for music/movies but you don't actually own them 16
Good business idea 22
