Re: METALLICA Discussion
Not necessarily faldor. Bri & Jorge have points. Sacremento '93 could've been a riot, but Slash came out and explained the problem, and also settled them down.
It was Axl who stormed off like a child, as soon as he had an excuse to get off that stage, he was gone, and when he came back, he bluntly told the audience what happened, and turned around and said "and if you find the guy that did it, kill the mother fucker" and walked off.
I think GN'R could avoid riots if situations were personally explained to the audience and and reaffirm their sadness in the end of the show, rather than Axl going all diva on everyone, even if it is Axl doing the explaining.

Man, my respect for Metallica just grows and grows. They cancel a show due to James being ill and he posts an official apology to the fans on their website. Taken from www.metallica.com
Hey there,
James here, alive, at about 80% but getting better. I want to say sorry for missing the second Stockholm gig on Sunday due to illness. The cause/diagnosis at the hospital was narrowed down to either a 24hr virus or a bad oyster...yes, hate to admit, an oyster could have taken me down.
I acknowledge and apologize for any inconvenience this has caused fans who had traveled near and far for the show. I had done everything possible to make it, and was at the point of falling if I stood up. On a lighter note since my illness, the support band 'Swedish Oyster Cult' will be thrown off the tour. More Cowbell?...More barf bagz!!
Thanx for your understanding and support. It's not without notice from the whole 'Tallica Touring Family.
With Love and Respect,
James 'papa het'
Re: METALLICA Discussion
They have re-scheduled the March 8th show to May 4th.
And the people that go to the show (including me!) will be given a code to download the show for free at http://www.livemetallica.com when walking into the venue.
Man, that's awesome.

I think they have built up a lot more good will in the last year with "Death Magnetic", even before doing a cool thing like that.

Re: METALLICA Discussion
Its a very different situation.
People follow the lead of their idols. In this case metallica came out and said they were sorry, explained what most people thought was reasonable, and promised to make it up - and their track record shows that 99% of the time they deliver what they promiced - on time and without too much bullshit.
Contrast with GNR - who at the time of the riots had a history and track record of cancelling shows, or delaying them for several hours inconviencing everyone involved. You arn't as likely to accept that Axl and co will definately be back another night. Who knows if Slash and co would even live out the week back then. lol. Then there is what is said - Axl left the stage clearly pissed off and angry, and in the st louis case clearly said the venue staff were at fault. And the reasons are not always seen as reasoable to a fan - not like going to hospital is.
That's why he was charged with inciting.
If metallica frequently had some of the issues GNR do, and then left stage saying "fuck this" - i guarentee there would be some shit go down.

Metallica to Perform With Jason Newsted at Rock Hall Induction, Thanks to Blondie
Metallica will reunite with former bassist Jason Newsted when the heavy metal gods are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Cleveland on April 4th, the Pulse of the Radio reports (via Blabbermouth.) Considering the group didn’t even include Newsted’s likeness in their Guitar Hero: Metallica video game (more on that here), bringing back the bassist comes as a surprise. But according to Kirk Hammett, the decision to invite Newsted to join Metallica during the induction and performance can be credited to another Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee: Blondie.
“We went as a band when Black Sabbath was being inducted, and at that time Blondie was also being inducted that night,” Hammett said of the 2006 ceremony, when former Blondie members Frank Infante and Nigel Harrison practically begged Deborah Harry on television to let them perform with the rest of the band, to no avail. “And there was so many politics and so much drama that, you know, we collectively said to each other, ‘We don’t want any of that,’ because it kind of, it puts a really bad, sour note on the whole celebration itself.”
Therefore, “Jason Newsted will be there, and he will be playing with us at one point,” Hammett said, ensuring that Flea, who will induct the band, won’t have to deal with any unexpected awkwardness onstage like Shirley Manson did when she presented Blondie. Plus, with Newsted, Flea and current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo all involved, we finally have sufficient bass to support Run-DMC’s performance.

Re: METALLICA Discussion
This is a very cool thing to do, seeing how Hetfield was TOTALLY wrong and has been from day one.
There never should've been a Robert Trujillo in the band.
To this day, I have no clue why Hetfield got all butt sore about Newsted having a side project, when Metallica hadn't put out a fuckin' record in a few years at that point.
Even Axl allows solo projects without issue, and he's supposed to be the nazi right?
To this day I scratch my head as to why Jason was shown the door, pretty much on the same level with Michael Anthony and VH.
Re: METALLICA Discussion
Their was a big face turn on their part, Mustaine was supposed to have been invited to the hall of fame by them.
He says he turned them down, because of Megadeths European tour.
Mustaine with Hetfield for one night only, that's a reunion I would've liked to seen.
