Or Slash/Duff getting credit for songs they did not write on AFD, UYI etc.

Right. For example, as far as we can tell from the rehearsal snippets of Don't Cry and Think About You with Tracii Guns and Rob Gardner, there were no significant differences with the released versions, aside from the solos. But Slash, Duff (and Steven, in the case of Think About You), all got writing credits.

It had to be an agreement in reforming a f Axl keeps the rights. Might be a reason there hasn’t been a traditional release

BTW I know a few people here and apparently a few just viewing the forum will be trying this link from time to time https://gunsnroses.lnk.to/thegeneral
If you do it may also be worth checking https://gunsnroses.lnk.to/thegeneralandmonsters. Given that this song is packaged in with the Perhaps link.to however it is likely that these links may never become active at all.

We discussed this before in a thread and I think the old partnership was resumed or rewarped somehow. Axl appears to have the rights to the name but not the band. Meaning if they broke up, he could create a new band with the same name, and/or refuse Slash & Co to use the name like David Gilmour did with Floyd. But he could not touch the legal entity of the old band. That's why he wasn't allowed to use the GN'R logo. Those rights still remained with the old band.

Now they do use the logo and Slash/Duff are credited on songs like equal band members. Probably Axl has the same agreement in place where if they break up, he can rewamp new GNR again.

Wasn't there something on Facebook with team that animates visuals for their songs on stage, I wonder if they have the song already since they did something for it right?

Creative works London yes. I think it was JRose who asked them. I cant remember there exact response but it was obvious they knew what he was talking about.

Writing credits for Perhaps and The General are on SESAC (which collects royalties for Axl). It looks that the full name of The General is "The General and Monsters"

Steve Freeman and Marc Haggard have written songs with Brain and Buckethead.

Now that's an interesting development.

It rules out the possibility of them pulling it at the last minute.

Interesting songwriting credits too.

That is one cool song title.

I am wondering if The General and Soul Monster have been merged into one song.

Yep. That's where I'm leaning. At some point for whatever reason, the songs got merged and instead of a new title... simply used both.

What are the chances the extended title of the General just happens to include a word from one of the other big guns?

My anticipation has kicked back in. I was already losing interest in it.

Business as usual for a GN'R fan. Quite the rollercoaster ride these last 30 years.

It's quite common in some bands to credit everyone as songwriters.

For example RHCP and U2 tend to do this regardless of who the actual first songwriter is.

There's pros and cons either way.

Dave Mustaine has sometimes spoken against that model - pointing out why should he credit people as songwriters who just happened to be sitting around in a room behind a drum kit when he wrote a new guitar riff on the spot.

On the other hand you get situations like Estranged - where a guitar line significantly elevates what could have been considered a completed musical piece without them.

Likewise when songs have been jammed in a group it can get complex - if a singer copies parts of a background guitar part in the vocal melody or a guitar solo rearranges parts of the vocal line - who wrote what. Sometimes its easier to just give everyone and nod and not worry about the drama of who made what first.

I don't believe for a second that The General and Soul Monster have been combined. I believe the word monster is in the lyrics of the song along with the word monstrous. but we will see soon.
