Re: If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you?

Three are re-recordings, but what about the re-recorded Appetite? Why didn’t we ever get that?
Or any of the many UYI demos and outtakes that we know of from bootlegs that were not released on the box sets?
Swift is releasing new music like crazy. Plus she releases remixes on streaming services (I looked them up). Where are the GnR Brain remixes?
Swift is a prolific artist in a way I wish Axl would be. She seems to love sharing her music, and won’t let anything stop her. Yes, Axl went through hell trying to release ChiDem but Swift had her own record company hassles which is why she is re-recording her early albums. She hasn’t had an easy time. She is just (apparently) more resourceful and persistent than he is.
He is one of the best artists of his generation. He has amazing human insights to share in his work. He should be as relevant in 2023 as Taylor Swift is but looking only to the past and not releasing new stuff gets in the way.
He’s 60, he’s as relevant as Mick Jagger no matter what he releases
Re: If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you?
Yeah....it's unfortunate but we're past the point of no return on GNR relevancy in pop culture.
His last chance at this was the early-mid 2000s....either in GNR 2.0 or reinventing himself with a solo career like Rod Stewart.
He wouldn't move forward so the world moved on.
In the 2010s he might have had a chance at a Johnny Cash style resurgence if certain planets aligned...but they didn't. For starters....no major players in the industry seem to give a shit about Axl/GNR anymore.
He's not interested in world domination anymore...and the world isn't waiting for him to become interested.
It is what it is.
All we have hope for is the 2-4 songs...and maybe a box set or two further down the road.
Axl/GNR is rounding third and headed for home....at best they have between 5-10 years left to do whatever they're going to do...and it looks like 2024 may be a silent year.
Re: If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you?
One more thing....
It blows me away he never attempted going solo. The potential to do something was clearly there.
He got way too caught up in the GNR thing post 95, hooked up with a wacky group of people, and the years and his career just started slipping away.
I try to imagine a similar trajectory for lead singers of other iconic bands....it doesn't compute.
What occurred in GNR really is an anomaly.
Closest you can get is Gilmour Floyd...but there's some differences obviously.
Edit
A Stones comparison to Axl/GNR...
Imagine the Stones breaking up after Undercover...which they basically did....but then absolutely nothing for years. Jagger releases Wandering Spirit, and then years later the Stones reunite for a nostalgia tour and release Doom and Gloom as a single.
Look at everything fans would've missed out on.
Re: If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you?
The lack of music sucks, but he wouldn't be Axl if he wasn't a madman. All great artists are somewhat mad in my opinion.
He'll go down in history with about 70 songs to his name. Not very prolific, but on the other hand most of them are very good songs. The only band I can think of with as many hits in a slim discography has to be the Beatles.

Christ. That puts a lot in perspective.

I give The Beatles a ton of credit. They did two successful feature films and wrote hundreds of songs known around the world from 1962 — 1970. Pretty much the span of time from Live Like a Suicide to The Spaghetti Incident. Not to mention a tons of interviews, music videos, John’s books, writing hits for others (including The Stones), their involvement with the “Yellow Submarine” film, solo projects …
They ultimately made greater use of the time they had. And produced probably three times as many songs.
Now that the Duff interview has been removed from the Internet my hope for new music is dropping rapidly. Did not expect this (apparent) rug pull.
Re: If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you?
You're right, I count 182 songs on their official albums so more than twice GN'R output, thrice if we don't count CD (no hits there).
Still I think their discography is mighty strong. How many bands tour stadiums on the back of 3 LPs and an EP?

That's the damndest thing. He won or had the name post 95 and did shit with it. It didn't matter that Slash/Duff/Izzy weren't there. The name (in the mid-late 90s) still meant something and had some cache in the music world. Even if he released CD at some point at worst in 2000, he could have still did the reunion and fetched money. The name gets you interest from casuals at least and who knows where it might have led. Van Halen, Motley Crue and others released records w/out iconic members in the 90s and did fine afterwards.
They were only relevant in pop culture for maybe 3 years. Incredible if you think about it. Metallica has been way more relevant in pop culture and has been for decades. GNR got lucky as they were lighting in a bottle and came around at the right time.
Re: If GNR releases nothing in 2023, is this the end for you?
To remove an article from a German magazine where the bassist of the band sugggests there maybe news this week shows how paranoid band management must be. pathetic
I wonder how this will go over with Duff if he hears about it. I also honestly wonder what he and Slash decide to do after this year’s shows. Seattle was added to the end of the tour and it’s Duff’s home town.
Is he privately wanting out of the band, but also wanting one last show in the town where he started, and which was the location of one of their very first shows?
