Re: Me And My Elvis Instrumental Leak (2019)
Okay, we need to update whispers
Still gonna say Seven will be closer to Me and My Elvis than Monsters. Pretty positive it’s Soul Monster
Nevermind. Think I misread this.
Re: Me And My Elvis Instrumental Leak (2019)
It's really hard to know what any of it is. They all speak infrequently, vaguely and often lie/misremember.
For years we were told Fortus wrote a part of Better after he joined in 2002. Then we get a circa 01 demo... and instrumentally it's basically all complete.
It would be curious to hear an earlier version of The General.
Someone posted just Monsters on YT and got a takedown notice from UMG saying their upload contained part of The General, so it is considered one whole song.
Did Soul Monster get mashed up and tacked on? Possibly. But in 08 Axl considered then separate songs in the forum chats, and by 2010 at that Vienna party the recorded clip of The General was the Monsters part, so either they got mashed together between 08-10 or Elvis Presley and the Monster of Soul is a different song.
We then have the MSL CD2 tracklist which includes Monstrosity - is that different or is that one of these songs or part of one of them?
It's all beyond confused and unless Axl decides he wants to chat about it one day we'll probably never know
Re: Me And My Elvis Instrumental Leak (2019)
Tonto was on that MSL list so I wonder if it got the Shackler’s treatment.
I’d say he went through a really creative period around 02-03:
Shackler’s Revenge
Scraped (Lies They Tell)
Better
The General
Monster of Soul (Monsters?)
Sorry
Vocals all look to have been recorded around the same time. Maybe Quick Song and Seven also, but it’s never been confirmed that there are vocals for those songs. Oklahoma had to have vocals before this.
Re: Me And My Elvis Instrumental Leak (2019)
K what sample should we find for Axl? Well he’s sort of like Julius Ceasar’ so we were trying to sample stuff that reflected that. We were looking for old school, crazy shit and I think we sampled Ben-Hur, chopped it up, cut it up and that became a jam, I think we called it ‘Seven’."
Crazy how various "big guns" were pretty much created out of thin air on a whim while bored.
No wonder each song had a million working titles.
Songs named after what you're eating while coming up with it and a brief comparison to Ben Hur leads to Circus Maximus/Ides of March/Seven. God only knows what it will be called if it ever gets released.
Quick Song probably named for how quick they came up with it and not its duration.
Thyme? Stinson probably had a bowl of soup and there wasn't enough thyme...complains...and voila... instrumental finally gets a title.
How does a supposed personal song like Oklahoma get a name change to Berlin? Did one of them eat some schnitzel or play the Civ 4 mod that includes Germany?
It's like no one took the project all that seriously. Axl showing up once in a blue moon, Tommy drinking, Bucket jerking off with dog shit and porn, Finck can't decide if he wants to be with Axl or Reznor, Fortus on his Rhianna tours, Dizzy on hookers and blow...
Is it really a wonder that vocals are still being added to these tracks as late as 2007?
Axl S is right....they're ALL unreliable narrators of the Chinese Democracy story yet they're all we have to give us the few pieces of the puzzle we do have.
We're never going to know all of it or hear all of it.
One of the reasons I'm content with just getting a couple more songs.

The only reliable narrator has been Axl but he rarely speaks. Even going back to the classic lineups, Slash, Duff, Sorum, Adler and Izzy are high as fucking kites most of the time and don't know what day it is. Slash's biography is littered with contradictions. Duff is at least also reliable post 95.
Axl rarely contradicts himself and is often proved right when discussing what has happened. He's horribly unreliable when discussing what will happen.
On the song titles, at some point after the original batch (98-01 vocals) a lot of them seem meaningless.
Shackles Revenge retained it's original title as a sequel to Buckethead instrumental called Shackler. He then writes and records lyrics for it in 2007 about the Virginia Tech shooting but keeps Bucket's title.
The General is called The General because Brain was eating Chinese food. It is another one that has nothing to do with the lyrics.

The General could be another name of the abuser Axl is writing and singing about in The General.
