Re: US Politics Thread
Wow, I take back everything I said. I can't believe two of Hillary's people were picked up today!
Naw, just kidding...
I would think this puts Manafort and Gates in competing positions to give up information. Who wants to flip first? Or face significant prison time? But I'm just now reading about Papadopoulos, and curious how that fits into the equation. Lots to read this morning.
More is coming in the following months. We're just getting started...
Trump should STFU on Twitter and speak only to his lawyer. But he's a moron, so he won't.

One thing I am seeing is Trump’s campaign is too damn stupid to have an elaborate collusion plan with the Russians.

I just read his tweet.
I’m not surprised he brought up Hillary. I am surprised how it works every time.
This blind rage toward Hillary by the right has been going on longer than I can remember...where did it all begin? The 1992 election?

This won’t hold up at SCOTUS. There’s going to be outrage when SCOTUS rules a mental illness isn’t an alternative life style.
The courts already previously made rulings about the ability of the military to “discriminate” due to its unique mission.

Yeah, this was the easiest, most logical move. Considering Manafort is a piece of shit that Trump couldn't even deal with for more than a few months, he just might give up a lot of information to save his own ass. Seems like the type of guy he is.
But besides the Manafort/Gates indictment, this other guy pleading guilty to lying to the FBI is interesting.
This thread has background.
74/ The Papadopoulos plea is BIGGER than the Manafort indictment—at least for the moment. Anyone who knows about Trump-Russia will say so.

There are plenty of "insiders" and other hacks on Twitter. Seth really seems to know what he's talking about. If this is correct, this is huge. Trump is finished.

You know it’s not a universally held belief that it’s a mental illness.
And even if we proceed with the belief they it is indeed a mental illness...and we hid behind the SCOTUS...this is all just a thinly valued hate mongering mission for trump to feed to his base of deplorables.
What about all the alcoholics, drug addicts and a whole multitude of other mental issues that the military seems to ignore if not encourage?
There’s quite a bit of inconsistency going on here.
On top of all this, we have not even considered the fact that most gender related behavior is learned. That means that it is kind of arbitrary and up to the culture that you surround yourself with.
In other words, if gender related behaviors learned then it’s obviously not something you’re born knowing how/what behavior to engage in.
In the end all this is just more of the Pence/far right fear mongering

The military doesn’t ignore them. A single DUI gets you kicked out. I’ve seen it first hand. Most bases have a 200% drug test policy meaning you’ll be randomly tested at least 2x a year and most units conduct 100% tests quarterly. So at least 6 piss tests a year for drug abuse.
You and I might disagree with it, but it’s a zero tolerance policy. That was somewhat waived during the surge because we needed every body (I had a guy piss hot for coke and we didn’t discharge him), but since the drawdown any infraction is a discharge.
If any illness manifests while in the military, they treat it or medically retire you and make you the VAs problem. You can’t enlist being HIV positive, but if you get HIV while in, they treat you and make you nondeployable.
That’s the whole part of the argument you seem to miss. It’s all about fitness for duty. There’s no morality to it. If you’re in garrison, you can get regular access to medication and therapy. In a combat zone, that’s not the case.
And of course none of that accounts that the military has different physical standards based on your sex. The only fitness requirement the same between men and women are sit-ups. To earn a perfect score on the 2 mike run or pushups, a female has to run slower than the passing time for a male. Same with pushups.
Sexual dimorphism is a real thing despite years of critical theory pretending it’s all in our heads.
Could some 50 year olds keep up with the standards of a 19 year old, surely. But SCOTUS has ruled that the cost to find those precious few isn’t worth the time and cost, so enlistment age cutoff is 30 or 35 right now.
So it becomes a question of should we harm unit morale and readiness so one male who believes he’s a woman can wear the uniform? Should we invest millions in training for someone who can never deploy because the Army can’t provide hormone injections and mental health care?
To those that wore the uniform, led men and women, and saw combat, the answer is pretty straightforward.
