Re: Oscars Controversy
This year’s Oscar nominations — completely overlooking actors of color in all major categories — have sparked one of the biggest controversies in the history of the Academy, leading to widespread outrage and a celeb-led boycott of the February 26 show.
Opinions have been pouring out of Hollywood over this lack of diversity, and Us Weekly has rounded up the most notable stars that have spoken out so far.
Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have all publicly called for a boycott and have made it known that they will not be attending this year's ceremony.
Smith told Good Morning America on January 21, “No [I will not attend]. We’ve discussed it. We are a part of this community. We’re uncomfortable to stand there and say that this okay.”
While some choose to boycott, other stars, like Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Lupita Nyong’o, are advocating hard for institutional changes — and the Academy accordingly responded with a statement on Friday afternoon. It said its board has approved “substantive changes designed to make the Academy’s membership, its governing bodies, and its voting members significantly more diverse.”
Some celebrities, however — like George Clooney, Dustin Hoffman and Whoopi Goldberg — argue that the problem extends far beyond the Academy.

“You wanna boycott something? Don't go see the movies that don't have your representation,” Goldberg said on The View.
Yet another contingent of boldfaced names, including Stacey Dash, Michael Caine and Charlotte Rampling, take issue with the protests. Best Actress nominee Rampling made waves when she told French radio station that “It is racist to whites. One can never really know, but perhaps the black actors did not deserve to make the final list.”

Re: Oscars Controversy
Basically Spike Lee/Jada have tried to start this campaign against the Oscars over the lack of black nominees. Personally I think Jada's just bitter that her husband (Will Smith) who made a film that wasn't well received didn't get nominated. Spike Lee's latest film also didn't nominated, but he's always convinced he's getting "oppressed" anyway.
Basically anyone who dares suggest at the minute that there weren't alot of great "Oscar worthy" films last year is immediately called a racist.
Re: Oscars Controversy
They've totally undermined the cause & called into question past & future awards for black actors. Kinda stupid move & they do look bitter - the two times will was nominated he lost to a black actor!
However the underlying point about the institutional racism of the oscars is correct.
It's interesting the value society puts on certain things. Me I usually think most of the winners are totally shit & I think the revenant was totally shit too (Matt Damon or Del Toro were so far better as were both the Martian & sicario). The only thing it was good for was Donal Gleeson being
& all the unintentional humour. Terrible film.
A load of shit if you ask me.

Johnny? Did you torrent Revenant or did you see it in the Cinema?
Re: Oscars Controversy
This is bullshit.
'I'm black! Nominate me because of my skin color!'
Black people talk so much about getting over racism yet they use every occasion to bring it up into discussion and throw it into people's faces.
Do a better job and maybe you'll get nominated. Not because of your skin color but based on the quality of your actual work.
Can't wait to see what Chris Rock has to say about it in his opening monologue

Unfortunately both. I regret both. Seeing it in the cinema just reaffirmed my dislike & thorough boredom of it all.
& I was really excited for that film too but it just was so so boring. Typical Hollywood wilderness epic that arrives once a generation for guys like Leo or Costner.. Except Costner made like 6 of them.
Re: Oscars Controversy
This garbage HAS to come to a stop. No one is willing to stop it and it just gets worse and worse. Now affirmative action is about to ruin our film industry. The only thing they are likely to achieve with this campaign is making the Oscars completely irrelevant.
I've been praying for a backlash to all this shit for years and eventually there's going to be one incident too many and its gonna cause an eruption.
