Re: GNR in PA May 13
I am impressed. He did "Mickey it up" on more than a couple of occasions in the song but even when he did it at least held some power so it wasn't as offensive. He also seemed genuinely proud of his performance, which is always good to see. In that section right after the first solo (2:50 mark) he almost looks like he's looking around at his bandmates to see if they also heard how awesome he sounded there .
I always thought the shortness of breath and the Mickey voice are what made it unlistenable, but at least in moderation they are acceptable as long as he sing with power and gusto.
Re: GNR in PA May 13
That's effort, I'll give him that. His voice sounds like a hybrid between Mickey and the raspier tone - by far his best since 2010. Also, he oozes with confidence while on stage, appearing staunch as the main attraction with a very loud backing band. And he should be; his voice sounds great and it gets better once we count in his age (52). He gets brownie points for authentic vigor in the chorus, the tone coming from the heart and adding another layer to the vocals. That megalomaniac Rock Star note has been away from him far too long - maybe, just maybe, the times recently spent with Duff spurred Axl to care for himself again.

We need to take Live from Stoke Nightrain Band Audio and Sync up Axl over that and remove Myles... Or put on 2006 Axl and that would give you an idea of a reunion sound.
Re: GNR in PA May 13
the show was awesome! i was really skeptical after those SA clips - i thought he looked tired and worn down and didn't sound too good.
but he came out and was energized. seemed to be in a good mood. talked to the crowd a little bit. and he sounded great. not perfect by any means, but plenty of rasp. and when he went mickey mouse, it wasn't THAT bad. it just sounded clean. during alot of songs he was kinda going back and forth. so it was cool to see him going for it alot.
the shows back in 2011 and 2012 that i saw were great, and this was just about as good as those. i'd say they were slightly better because they were longer (Bethlehem show was around 2.5 hours). i heard plenty of people say they loved the show and couldn't believe how great they sounded. it was definitely a relief for me to see that he still sounds good.
