Re: Slash Mention on Howard Stern
I think both sides are right. It's pointless to ask Slash about the good and bad old GN'R days anymore. He left 16 years ago and told everything he wanted to.
On the other hand it's inevitable. GN'R made him famous, GN'R were one of the biggest bands ever and since he's sober and such, he's got less tour stories to tell.
Plus, if you go to Howard, then prepare for sensationalism.
Re: Slash Mention on Howard Stern
I understand what you guys are saying, and believe me I agree GNR is timeless.
But you talk like he's been ducking GNR interviews for years and there's unsolved questions.
He's spoken extensively in hundreds of interviews about:
- Why he left GNR
- The final days of GNR
- Creative and other differences with Axl
- The final tours of the band and associated road stories
- What it would take to reunite from his perspectiveHe also published a BOOK that has a COMPLETE SECTION dedicated to answering that stuff.
It's all been answered and there's no new information.
So he gets his publicist to ask people to focus on the 15 years and 6 albums since that time.....they ignored it...so the publicist called and told them they don't appreciate ignoring their interview terms.
Howard doesn't have to help Slash? Guess what - Slash doesn't have to help howard too - by sensationalising an interview by dragging back over shit he's answered HUNDREDS of times. Don't like it...don't ask him on.
Then don't go on Howard Stern's show to promote your shit.
Howard's doing him a favor, not the other way around. Howard can run his mouth for 3 hours and people will still listen. Slash is the one needing here, not Howard.

Re: Slash Mention on Howard Stern
It doesn't matter who is needing. Look at the process:
* Slash is invited on the show.
* Slash accepts on condition that certain topics are not raised.
* Howard Agrees
* Slash comes on the show
* Certain topics are raised.
Person at fault is howard.

Re: Slash Mention on Howard Stern
It's about people doing what they say they'll do.
You invite Axl to your home.
Axl says ok "if you tattoo slash sucks on your arm"
you agree.
Axl comes over.
You show him an "I love Slash" tattoo.
You are at fault. Not Axl.
It may or may not be ridiculous for Slash to ask for the terms he did but he did ask for them, and they welcomed him onto the show under those conditions, then they didn't honour them and he was upset.

So what you're saying Chow is the most dangerous band in the world is actually a bunch of pussies.

I wholeheartedly disagree. First off, we don't know for sure who asked who to be on the show. Stern routinely runs his show without guests, sometimes he even prefers it that way. They do recruit to get SOME guests on the show, but that's not the way it always works. Oftentimes, artists have product to push and promote and they ask if they could be on these types of shows. So it's entirely possible that Slash could have gone this route, instead of the other way around. Howard conducted the interview like he has done EVERY other interview he's done in his career. People come in all the time with certain guidelines they may have, and certain things they'd rather not talk about. Howard will push the issue and try to get them to talk about the interesting stuff in a non threatening way. Sometimes guests hold back and Howard will move on to other topics. Other times, guests give in to please Howard and his audience. That's the way he's been doing business for 30+ years. It didn't change the day Slash entered his studio.
Slash mentioned a few times during the interview that Howard was asking too many GNR questions, so he went onto other topics then tried to bring GNR back up. Again, that's the way he operates. If Slash wants to talk solely about his solo work and everything else non GNR, then go on to a music based show. Stern's show is entertainment based. Howard has no clue who Myles Kennedy is, he never will know, and he doesn't care to know. He'll appease Slash and ask him those questions, but what he really cares about is what 99% of the population cares about. That's why he's the most successful radio broadcaster in the history of the business. The man knows what he's doing.
The same thing would happen if Axl came on the show. You think Howard could give 2 shits about DJ, Ron, Richard, Buckethead, Robin, etc.? NO! I'd venture to guess that's one of the many reasons why Axl hasn't given in to any of their requests to be on the show. If, and when, he's ready to let loose about Slash, then maybe. But if his focus is the current lineup, Stern's show would serve him no purpose. Stick with the Eddie Trunk's of the world.
Again, Slash can't have it both ways. He's using Stern's show and audience to promote himself but getting upset when Howard does what he does. If it bothers him so, go on some other radio shows that get nowhere the ratings Stern gets. See how that works for you.
Also, why the hell are we arguing this? Slash apologized to Gary (Stern's producer), said he was wrong, and said he got great feedback from his appearance on the show. That should be the end of the conversation right there.

Re: Slash Mention on Howard Stern
I enjoyed the Stern movie, but he himself in 2012 isn't anything great. I love Robin. I can't beleive there is so much discussion about this.... Stern maybe one of the biggest shock jocks ever, but Slash is one of the most famous guitar players ever. So its not like Slash is looking for his big "Break" on the stern show. Slash is a star to the stars..... I guess he had an unrealistic desire of respect.

Yep.
Slash has terms for interviews.
Axl used to make people sign an entire contract detailing his right for final approval and editing rights before he'd agree to sit an interview.
It's pretty standard work for almost any famous person to have preferred topics and no-go-zones from their publicist...don't really understand why you guys are singling slash out on this.
