In fairness to Axl, I don't mean to get all Lebeis gay on everyone, but we do need to kind of understand Axl's background.
He was young too. And he also grew up being trained that ALL problems were solved with violence, plus the hatred of his mother... he was a ticking time bomb.
We also don't know if Erin pushed his buttons either. There were other people that were around them, that said Erin knew exactly how to push his buttons and would antagonize him to the point he'd explode. Because she was also young and stupid.
I think it was just a poisonous relationship. I don't think it makes Axl look anymore like a piece of shit than Erin Everly. Just an act of youth and misadventure imo.
Now the Stephanie Seymour thing -- no excuse. They were both older, and he knew better.

Everly's done a good job of keeping a low profile; however, determined fans have rooted out information and discussed her activities on GN'R fansite message boards. It's unclear whether she is officially divorced from Portman, but she's linked with a new man, Atlanta landscape architect Matthew Klyn. Her youngest child appears to be the product of that relationship, based on photographs and comments on Klyn's Facebook account.
She had restraining order put on her from Husband/Child not so long ago.
