Re: Bumblefoot not happy? Speculating....
Back on the subject of BBF; If Axl didn't want to play ball, the least he could've done was had cats like Tommy and BBF go out and do those shows as representing Guns N' Roses. It'd be nice if anyone in the world outside of us and "management" knew who was in the band.
well since this is the thread for speculating......
i'm p sure BBF did do some Guitar mag interviews around the time of release. & maybe even Tommy too?? (maybe not tho)
but, i think a large reason why Axl recruited the personnel he did was because a lot of them are wary or shy of the media.
hell when finck spoke to the press it was once in a blue moon, & we know about bucket & herbie (i think that was his name, yea?).
we used to think there were gag-orders in place due to the silence! (tho there surely definitely were similar sorta contracts w/some of the people/producers)
none of the guys post-Slash have courted the media, or spoke openly to the public (bar BBF's twitter outbursts).
& of course there is also the point that people aren't really interested in guys they don't know or haven't heard of.
& even if tommy & BBF did do press they wouldn't have been able to answer the questions people wanted to know about. it's all well & good sending them out to do interviews, but what if nobody wants to talk to them? let's face it, they're not Axl or Slash or even Duff.
but Axl didn't send them out to do interviews or promo, or he didn't let them, due to spite. when the label weren't going to promote it neither was he. the BB deal absolved him of any extra burden & he expected to be treated to the full promo push videos etc. & when that wasn't happening then neither was he or the band.

TWAT is far and away my favorite song on CD; however Estranged didn't do so well as a single. Some of it was the time when it was released, but not all of it. People don't tend to get long, drawn out songs. People want simple.

Til the day I die, I'll defend Better as the choice from that record to launch with. If they'd heavily promoted that as the first single and "played ball" (interviews, late note shows, etc) it would've been a completely different story.

Pretty much. Better was the song that appealed to what most GNR fans wanted to hear. A hard rock song with loud guitars, pounding drums, and great lyrics from Uncle Axl. It's the song that got my best friend to actually care for some of CD. It's that song, Madagascar, and Shackler's that made me pick up the album in the first place. Then I realized that I loved Prostitute and If The World too. Even casuals and the press loved it to an extent. If Better came out a few months before the release then it would of helped the situation a little.
Re: Bumblefoot not happy? Speculating....
Better was slated to appear on a Harley Davidson commercial in 2007. Since the album wasn't released, they went with Paradise City.
I'm pretty sure the commercial was to be around the album/single release and I'm confident Better was to be THE single. Even a video was in the works, that never materialized.

2007 version was the mix everyone and even the production team wanted before the release. I think the closest version we will get to it is Russ's excellent TCB remix of Better. I don't blame Pitman for the extra synths cause that's his position was adding an extra sound to the songs, writing, and adding production and instrument work.
Re: Bumblefoot not happy? Speculating....
The amazing thing is that Better is actually a song off the Sean Beavan sessions.
The material leaked on Antiquiet is believed to come from a 14-track CD that was, effectively, a 'finished' version of the album circa 2006; Classic Rock has heard the majority of another 'finished' version of the album dating from the early 2000s.'

BETTER
Originally leaked to the internet in February 2006, this poprock track later appeared (briefly) on a Harley-Davidson ad. A more synth-heavy cut circulated on GN'R fan sites in February 2007, while a third version with additional backing vocals appeared on the Antiquiet.com website in June 2008.
Four distinct versions of this song exist; the earliest take, from the late 90s, showcases Robin Finck's guitar work and has a choppy feel. The first version to leak to the internet appeared in 2006, with an altogether smoother sound; Finck's solo was excised and replaced by Buckethead's psychedelic shred guitar. Subsequent leaks of the track in 2007 saw Finck's solo reinstated as a bridge section, along with grittier rhythm tracks.

Thanks for the info. I would love to hear a cut from the late 90s session work.
Re: Bumblefoot not happy? Speculating....

You have a point. I just want to hear the session work from that period either way.
