Charlie Sheen has more talent as an actor/comedian in 2012 than Axl does as a singer/songwriter. His show has already been picked up for like 100 episodes or something.  The guy makes a joke about Axl and people wanna dimish his popularity and his talent just because he's  a bit crazy?

Axl in 2012 is popular for his past and for his antics. Sheen is popular for his recent professional accomplishments as well as his antics. One is "washed up" in the eyes of the public, the other is still very much a pop culture icon.  That's just that way it IS

I don't necessarily disagree with you. I'm just not convinced it will continue on that way. Talk to me when Anger Management hits episode 100. Then I'll admit defeat.

Please. Sheen is popular for his breakdown and the fact that he is on drugs. People love a train wreck. As far as his show goes, it's the same thing that happened when Aston appeared on 2 and 1/2 Men. Everyone tuned in the first week to see what would happen. Then it dropped off the radar. Anger Management got shit reviews from almost every critic.

And I doubt you'd be defending Charlie had he cracked a joke about Slash.

To be fair, Axl is the biggest benefactor of the train wreck theory I've ever seen.

Not really. I don't see where he has benefited from it, as in made money or become more famous as a result. Usually those who benefit from train wreck status are people who get some kind of work out of it, like Lindsay Lohan or Charlie Sheen.

He could benefit from it if he's do a reality show and make an ass of himself like Adler did. But I don't think he would. He's not the type.

I'm somewhere on the middle on this.

I have no issue with Sheen making the joke, other than my usual broader perspective that it's sad that everything related to GNR has to become about Axl vs Slash.

Like, it would be nice if Slash getting the star was a moment to consider how he's one of the greatest guitarists to have ever lived...instead we have to be making cracks at Axl...

Secondly, if we're going to make jokes at Axl, why not make one that's actually sense making. ALL THREE of these guys are multimillionaires...Axl's going to be homeless with his $200 million dollars in assets....not to mention Axl and Slash did basically live on the streets for a time...so it's a bad joke...

Thirdly, I like sheen...but realistically the last year he was famous for his "winning" catchphrase and having "3 godesses" or whatever it was and his party lifestyle rather than his acting ability as such. Then again...maybe that's why he's a genius...he's moved on to the paris set now of being famous cos he's famous without needing a show....giving himself a WWE personality and catch phrase was gold for him.

Axl benefits from it every day.  It's the only reason he makes the paper.  Nobody is covering his band, but he makes the paper for all the bad stuff.  He has for decades...even going back to when they were on top.

That's because he's already famous for GNR's music.

If I go on stage at my local bar 2 hours late does it make the paper? If I become a recluse does it make the paper? If I go on an angry tirade at the airport will it be on TMZ?

Axl is the guy people love to hate, but he had to be worthy of attention in the first place.

I see what you're saying, but there's really no comparison between him and Charlie Sheen, if that's where we're headed.  For all the "bad" things Axl has done, they don't come close to comparing to the things Sheen has done.  Yet, Charlie is still far more beloved.  Go figure.  I reckon it's because Sheen is a far more outgoing, affable dude and Axl is reclusive and keeps to himself.  The media will always side with those who are more approachable.  Charlie meets that description by a large margin over Axl.

Comments like this are so damn asinine it's not even funny. Charlie Sheen is a comedian. I don't give a flyng fuck who he made a joke about as long as it's funny. In fact Slash got roasted at Charlies' roast as well and I thought it  was funny. The fact you think I'm defending Charlie based on some loyalty towards Slasha nd if the joke had gone the other way I'd be criticizing Sheen is beyond ridiculous. Shows how dellusional some people really are when it comes to all this Axl vs Slash stuff. Seriously dude step outside the forum walls and get some fresh air. Life isn't all about Axl vs Slash the way some of you want it to be.  Holy fuck roll
