I think Libertad is far superior to Contraband guitar wise and it's not even close.  It's hidden in the max (thanks Scott), but it's way more diverse than Contraband is guitar wise.  Take Slither, FTP, and Loving the Alien away and Contraband is a bunch of similar sounding songs.  Nothing wrong with that and I like Contraband, but I think you're missing something guitar wise.

Agree. Contraband had the anger, drive and power, but often lacked musicality (except Set Me Free, Superhuman, YGNR and the songs you mentioned). Libertad was the opposite: more interesting musically, but lacked power.

Heard a little Nighttrain in that solo.

Buzz said what I feel about most of these tunes. Slash is sounding great to me, but I have to listen to Myles to get to the solo. And not only do I have to listen to Myles, I have to listen to him spew some very average lyrics.

I do like Contraband, but it reminds me a little of listening to AC/DC in that I have to listen for a while to figure out what song it is.  I didn't get that with Libertad or the first solo album for the most part.  I don't expect to have that with the new album based on what I've heard so far.

I hope the new album grows on me.  I bought the package with the vinyl, CD, MP3, book, t-shirt, and whatever the hell else came with it...so far it may be collecting a lot of dust with my CD vinyl.

Count me in, totally. I like it, alot.

Although I don't only listen to old guy, throw back rock, I'll take it anyday if its good.  Didnt Jimi Hendrix once say, 'there's only two types of music, good music and bad music'? To me, this is good. Very.

Jimi probably didnt say that, I'm sure someone did though.

It's all subjective of course, which is why music orientated arguments are pretty pointless mostly. They can still be alot of fun though.

But yeah, another track that makes me look forward to the album even more.

And, while I'm typing, I get what alot of you are saying about Myle's vocals, being something to get though to get to the song, he's obviously polarising. While I certainly dont love his vocals, they are not too grating that I dont want to listen to it. While not stellar, the guy can sing, and I can live with them just fine.

I like myles...I just can't always understand him.

Can anyone tell me the first line of this song? The line before "I'm the devil you keep inside"....

I think it's "Have you profited to my cold and shallow way"

And listening more closely, like you said monkey, the lyrical content sounds like it's about a certain redhead we all know...

what annoys me about Myles is that he is obviously a trained singer but he has allowed himself to drift into singing in a very nasal style. This can be changed. Listen to Mike Patton on the early stuff and then check him out on Angel Dust. The dude went from nasally & shouty to deep throated and huge.

Myles has it in him, his low range is quite Chris Cornell and cool but some of the high note stuff is off-putting.

I think that's it exactly.  Sometimes I hear him and am amazed how good it is; other times I just cringe.

I completely agree. Myles is a mixed bag for me also.

The absolute SHIT vocals you hear in this song right now, remind me of when Vince Neil and Crue got back together and Vince was nasily wheezing and lazily "singing" himself through Dr. Feelgood live, and you could barely understand a word he was saying.

Myles seems to phone it in at times imo.
