Re: Gotta Love Adler: RS Interview "I'm done with him"
I guess it's perception.
To me Gilby has GNR in the blood because in 1993 I saw GNR with him in it and it was still GNR.
I've seen the new band many times and it's awesome...but it's something different.
A VR show was closer to that vibe - and given Matt isn't an original member either - maybe it's putting Slash and Duff together gives you a certain feel of chrisma - then you add Axl and you add in the danger.
As for inspiring anyone, in my opinion the rhythm guitarist is basically irrelevant. He's there to hit the underlying chords. I know that will piss everyone off.
But GNR could be GNR with Axl, Slash, You, Duff and Matt. And I'm sure it would have a great GNR vibe to it.
Re: Gotta Love Adler: RS Interview "I'm done with him"
It's definitely different...the new band that is. However, I thought it was pretty different in 92 with all the horns and crap. I saw shows all 3 years 91-92-93....the Indiana Izzy shows were the biggest thrill ever due to all the new songs and me and my bro were floored. We loved them all....no matter how rough and raw. We loved the melodies and the rock. 92? meh...93? Skin and Bones. They did bring back the essence of the band. Great shows.

Bono wrote:Actually there is a huge difference between Gilby and new era members. Gilby is looked at by the general public as a legit member of Guns N' Roses. He was in all the music videos that came after YCBM. he's in the only official live DVD, he's on Live Era, he played on TSI and is pictured on the inside of TSI booklet. he toured with the band on their biggest tour ever AND was name dropped at the RRHOF as a past member. There is a big difference between the hired hand Gilby and the hired hands of the new era. Gilby contributed more and was more involved with the real Gn'R legacy than any of the current members regardless of their writting credits or not. Gilby will go down and has gone down as a much more legit member of Guns in the eyes of the public than anyone in the current band. Just the way it is.

*EditOh except maybe Buckethead because "he's the guy that replaced Slash"
I just asked my brother this question with every band member. Who is a more legit member of Guns N' Roses; Gilby Clarke or _______? Buckethead was the only guy he said maybe to because "he replaced Slash and everyone knows him for that". Every other member he said no to. Including Robin Finck. When I said Ron Thal he said "Who?
Just saying. I think it's ridculous to say there's no difference between Gilby Clarke and new era members. Maybe not technically but there's a HUGE FUCKING DIFFERENCE perception wise. And perception is reality.
I don't care what the fucking public thinks! The majority of the people in the world are morons. Gilby is a scrub just like the rest of the hired hands. Reality is reality in my world. Sorry. I just don't agree.
This post right here, despite the fact that you tongue-in-cheek with it, shows how delusional these boards are. All of them. They just live on a different planet.
Nobody sees that opinion at all outside of the "Log On" button.
But anyways, I ain't gonna argue about it. You're all...

Alright....sick of listening to this petty fuckin bullshit. You are right. The entire world knows who Gilby F'n Clarke is. A complete legend in the industry for his year and a half run in Gnr. A fuckin ICON for the ages. Didn't he write Sweet Child O Mine? Or was that November Rain? Patience? No, that's right. It was Welcome to the Jungle. Holy fuckin hell...what a riff.
What's old Gilby up to now? Is he helping the Stones put together their final album? I hope so cause man he plays a wicked Wild Horses. Shit....what a talent.
You know what, John Q public doesn't give two farts about ANYONE in Gnr outside of Axl and Slash. That is fucking it. Period. End of discussion. You gonna tell me your average 16 year old pimple faced shit knows who Duff McKagan and Izzy Stradlin are? Hell fuckin no....much less all the drummers and hired hands who have passed through the ranks.
So, you can all fuck off with your petty arguments over Richard Fortus, Gilby F'n Clarke, Barney Fife or anyone else who stepped in the studio or on stage with Axl and whatever "Gnr" is. Fuck off.
The world knows Axl and Slash. Rant over.

Yup. Summed up perfectly.
The more this goes on the more childish it gets and I'm embarrassed I was a part of any of it.
