Re: Sorum Says Velvet Revolver Are Eyeing Potential New Singer
Scott has always been a difficult guy to like.. he seems decent enough when he's clean but seems to morph into a paranoid diva bitch when he's using. Like Axl he blames everybody else for his band collapsing around him and never fesses up when its time to look at the man in the mirror.
He's pulled shit with STP and like Slash & Duff those boys in STP learned to live with it so they could keep going.
It must be a fucking nightmare having your career sucker punched by guys like this. I have always been an STP fan but more for the band than Scott, he has always been too fond of the bullshit for my liking.
If I was a millionaire musician and my singer was acting out like that I'd chin the fucker and go home to my palace to chill. Life is too short.
Re: Sorum Says Velvet Revolver Are Eyeing Potential New Singer
^^ In Keith Richards book he refers to it as LVS (Lead Vocalist Syndrome). Says he hasn't really known the real Mick since about 1972.
main problem with VR was... U can't have 3 members of GNR in one group AND NOT do any major GNR songs.
Brownstone and Easy are great songs but not over the top mainstream smashes. So not being able to do the true hits hurt VR...
so if u are going to be essentially GNR minus Axl, u have to have someone who can cover all your great hits.
Myles isn't Axl but at least he can hit the correct pitch.. doesn't always sound the best, but u can still do a good job performing what people want to hear.
Also, Slash has no fucking balls or guts. he just cannot tell someone NO
Libertad was a Scott solo album with Slash,Duff etc as session players. they should've told him to fuck off, we are doing THIS
Contraband is a great album. My favorite of the 21st century, and yes i like it better than CD
but Libertad was giant step back.
I agree with your point about Slash needing to be more assertive, but I'm not sure about your first point with not doing GNR songs. I don't think touring was their problem. I suppose Jungle, SCOM, & PC would have been good to see, but people weren't going to see that or expecting that out of the lead singer. That would have really equated the guy to covering. I give credit that they chose songs Weiland was comfortable with.

No offense...but i would HATE that.
Duff's voice is only useful for punk - which is fun sometimes when you want a punk cover like Attitude...but on every track - no thanks. Izzy writes great songs - and at times his voice adds value when with someone else...but to me a VR fronted by Izzy would be a snoozefest vocally.
The project needs a dedicated singer, not a singer guitarist, and it needs someone with some serious vocal chops. It needs it's axl
That's because you're wanting it to be an arena rock band.
I wanted, from day one, to be more of "greatest western-blues bar band in the world" outfit.
I wanted them to use Izzy and be WRITERS. Dylan-territory, not "Set Me Free".

YEah fair point...I prefer Izzy's Dylan and Stones sound when Slash adds an epic solo and Axl does his harmonies...kinda how it was in GNR...that sound by itself doesn't really do it for me. It's why i've not got into his solo stuff much. I just need a lead singer in a band I think...maybe I am kinda arena rock!

I think I got half a chubby just reading that sentence.
How has the Izzy solo album that both Slash and Duff played on not surfaced yet?
I actually have a pipe/wet dream that the only reason it hasn't is that Izzy is holding it back so if they get back together they have something they can put Axl's vocals on and get something new out quick.
Re: Sorum Says Velvet Revolver Are Eyeing Potential New Singer
That or Izzy can't find it.
yeah he's one of those types.
He might be holding it over for a rainy day.
For reasons stated in this thread, is why i've never understood when people say "a new, old GN'R album doesn't interest me, I wanna see what DJ & Ron bring"... even DJ & Ron wouldn't agree with that.
One of Axl's biggest issues since 1991, is struggling to be inspired to write without Izzy, and I don't blame him. Look at Slash without Izzy... hit & miss just like Axl.
It's been said before, but... if we could just get these guys in the same room something really fuckin' cool might happen.
