I thought, on the video, axl sounded worse than when I saw him in Atlanta, that goes back to my theory of out a loud ass show and a perfect mix to where an axl flaw isn't that noticeable.  His voice sounded weak during the versus of LALD, but, during the chorus and screams, sounded good.

Nah that wasn't it... Axl just was weak. Simple as that.

Can't remember what I texted Russ during Orlando, but I told him live in real time that LALD was sounding like 2002, and YCBM sounded terrible, Axl of course. Then you'd have a situation where the band fucked up NR, but Axl was on. Moments like that happened.

For the most part Axl's rasp was ACTUALLY there, and he sounded awesome. The YouTube videos proved that. But there were other songs he sounded weaker on, and the TMS pro-shot shit proves that.

Has nothing to do with "great mix". 'Cause I could hear Axl 2002'ing it at times, with the mix live.

Bottom line:

Axl can't sing LALD anymore
Axl CERTAINTLY cannot sing YCBM anymore (I haven't heard a good version of this YET on the 2011 tour)
Axl sings SCOM with a clean, crisp, no rasp ala 2002

Sometimes during the outro Axl will slip into 2006-isms on SCOM, and some raspy moments will return, but for the most part Axl sings SCOM like a 2002 CD song. Some people like that. I don't, but Axl wasn't pitchy on it either.

Either way, I don't think it's about the mix. More like "bad" or "biased" ears. Some songs Axl just doesn't have it anymore. I LOVE You Could Be Mine. LOVE IT. The song was MY FIRST Guns N' Roses song. It broke me into the band. I will always love it for that. Always.

But Axl needs to drop it if he can't do it right anymore. Seems to take alot out of him. Obviously it's one of Axl's favorites, and big with the audience, plus it's one of the few UYI trx in the set. It ain't going anywhere.

Shackler's, Miami 2011 was another one where Axl was full blown 2002, struggling. I wonder if that "Tell Frank, no one asked" comment came from. Axl did Shackler's by request of the band, but he didn't feel like he was vocally prepared for it. It showed.

I think the Miami version of "Shackler's Revenge" was the best I've ever heard.

I think Axl intentionally pulled back on his volume during the verses of LALD, and I think it's a smart move to pace himself during a marathon show. His vocal tone was great, and I loved the vibrato he used. I'll never understand how people think singing with a raspy tone is actually good, especially live. I think the cleaner tone both sounds better and is better for his voice, especially if he's concentrating keeping his throat open to do that.

Two reasons as to why they will fight you for rasp over clean...

1) The songs were originally recorded and presented to the audience sung with rasp, and that tone. Recreating these songs live is why an audience goes to a show. Imagine if Slash performed Jungle with Eddie Van Halen's guitar tone. People would be pissed at him.

2) Alot of times Axl's "clean" voice is also a great revealer of him also winded and pitchy. Rasp hides that. So when he goes 2002-mode, he reveals his weaknesses live vocally more.

And btw, I relistened to Shackler's Miami 2011, and it was awesome. Very much live-album quality. I must have a different Shackler's in mind that I heard recently and got the two confused.

Does kinda rub u the wrong way he mentions stopping the late starts cause of the Crew.... Why not stop them cause of the hardworking people paying huge prices to see u and that have to work the next day?

That's the first thing I said. Yea, you're being hard on the crew...big fucking deal, that's their job! People put down their money to see a show, try not being late for them.

And the "Something always goes wrong"...yea for every single concert. But then turns around and essentially says he's always run late his entire life.

If Axl simply said that he can't get into the right frame of mind for a show until late at night (which I think is mostly the case), I think people would be much more lenient on him for it. Instead he just came off as BSing around the subject, again, kinda blaming everyone else but himself.

Getting up and fronting a band like GN'R would certainly be no easy task, he should have just said that.

I also thought him saying that the 1991 tour shouldn't have happened, goes completely against other interviews I've seen with him from then saying "they're doing THEIR headlining tour THEIR way and it feels great"

Did he forget about that...?

Just seems like running in circles, because he's full of shit about that.

Its funny how Axl goes out of his way to say his road crew were really supportive of him back on the Illusion tour and he stopped the late starts to make it easier on them. I remember when Izzy left one of the reasons he stated was Axl's late shows and treatment of the road crew, pointing out "for every hour he's late, thats an hour less they'll get to sleep that night."

Re: That Metal Show, Trunk/GN'R Discussion

Maybe those words hit home with Axl.  He's always seemed to care a lot about Izzy's opinion.

Yeah i think sometimes Axl lives in his own little zone but when you stop and make him focus on what's happening to someone else he cares deeply.

i thought the TMS guys did a great job. overall i thought it was a cool interview.

the only thing i did not like was bumblefoot. i seriously got 4 texts from friends that had some version of "WTF?!?!" that did not come off funny at all. it was totally awkward. i don't know why they showed it. for about 95% of the people watching, this is their first time seeing any other band members up close and personal and he just totally dropped the ball.

but like one of my friends said, "even Axl seemed totally sane after seeing that bumblebee dude. is he really in the band???"

Yeah, a friend of mine text me saying Bumble was a douche.  So he's got his work cut out for him to win him over this Saturday in Hartford.  Not that, that's what it's all about.

I think my friend may be confusing Ron for Robin too.  Back in 2006 he hated Robin after seeing them at MSG, and at the time Robin was all bearded up.  So I think he may just think that was Ron back then.  A few weeks ago he asked me if Bumble was still running around like an idiot onstage, which he really doesn't ever do, and that was one of his main problems with Robin.  So I think it's a case of mistaken identity.
