Re: What "IF" Axl had released a solo album back in 1995
the fact that slash initially lied is confirmation that axl's camp told the truth from the get-go.
I don't think so. All it's confirmation of is he didn't want people to know he was there. I highly, highly doubt their version of events, especially given the number of lies coming from them.

I bet both camps won't tell the "whole" truth.
I would like either Axl's current line up or Slash with Myles to get some damn radio play with a hit of their own at some point. Seems like forever ago when VR was actually releasing hit singles.

I hear Ghost and Back From Cali played all the time on the commercial rock radio station (Triple M) here in Australia. Triple M loves Slash at the moment, as Slash even re-recorded the station's theme song.
I bet the new Slash/Myles album will get plenty of support from Triple M when it's released too.
Only ever heard Better played a few times when CD came out. Now they just play classic GN'R

Slash is the bomb......
When you’re lost in the rain in Juarez
And it’s Easter time too
And your gravity fails
And negativity don’t pull you through
Don’t put on any airs
When you’re down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outta you

I could see Slash maybe saying those things to appease Axl and maybe try to play to his ego etc by saying that.. I don't know.. sounds very random though to just spew that to someone u hadn't talked to in forever. Not sure Axl looks any better telling it to the press.
I think drugs/alcohol made Axl withdraw from them and he'd get a long very well with a sover band now.
Re: What "IF" Axl had released a solo album back in 1995
I personally think that all that would've happened is that GN'R would've continued on with Axl & Duff, and a more straight-rock lineup than Axl's freakshow of the late 90's/early 2000's.
Basically it would've been Axl, maybe a Zakk Wylde/Doug Aldrich-type, Paul, Duff, Matt & Dizzy.
Slash might've eventually limped back to the band, tail between his legs after Snakepit flopped, but it wouldn't have been immediately.
People forget that Slash had just as much an ego as Axl. He was already playing "come to me" bullshit with Axl and the band even then, and a flopped Snakepit album would've had him even more in defense mode.
By the point Slash wanted back in, Axl and everyone else, might've moved on at that point.
jmho
Keep in mind, if GN'R had kept active Slash-less in the mid-to-late 90's... I don't care what anyone says... Slash would've eventually been written off, even by fans. And they'd still been able to sellout at least arenas.

There is an element of "Battle of the Wills" in the slash Axl thing.
They each have mostly maintained their stance on it - even in the face of public backlash against the 'fake' band and so on Axl is not prepared to back down and suck up to Slash enough to win him back.
Likewise, Slash refuses to deal anymore with the late starts/cancelations/delays erratic work patterns and general way GNR is run.
Financially it's not in either man's interests to continue the rift. GNR will NEVER again mainstream acceptance again without Slash - and slash will NEVER find a lead singer that's on par with Axl's combination of talent/attitude/chrisma/songwriting/abilities etc.
Yet both of them refuse to blink.
I see the whole 2005 incident as Slash having a moment of clarity one night and going "What the fuck am I doing?" - realising you only live once - and that given VR was being very troublesome at the time - realising that there was always going to be personality conflicts in a band - so why not do it in the better band.
If he ranted about VR i think it was just in the context of trying to say "Hey look - things between Axl and I don't need to be fucked".
The shame is that he didn't get to see Axl if he really was in the mood to meet half way.
Even if no reunion came about musically. I'd like to see an end between the divisions and wars in the fan base.

This.
The most interesting thing about the 'Slash visiting Axl's house' episode is that fans forget the most important details.
1. After the visit Slash N' Duff dropped the lawsuit against Axl.
2. After the visit more and more rumours came about a reunion. (Download festival etc.)
3. The reunion is said to fall apart because of Axl Rose trying to trick the others out of old royalties.
3. The Axl camp made the visit public half a year after it had happened.
Do the math.
The who was drunk and who wasn't, who said what to who and when, and everything in Axl's press realease is just random manipulator bullshit.
