Re: Spaghetti Incident
best gnr covers 4 me are KOHD, Down on the Farm and Sympathy for the Devil...still think they shoudnt perform any of them live on a regular basis though...but alot of people like LALD and KOHD so what can they do? both even still get regular radio play near me...so i understand why they remain in the setlist
Re: Spaghetti Incident
Yeah a sailing one would be good.
I like TSI personally some great covers on there.
The only covers I don't really like of GNR's is Whole Lotta Rose and Heartbreak Hotel.
I always thought their cover of Whole Lotta Rosie was ace. 1987 or 2010. Both are fuckin' awesome.

Re: Spaghetti Incident
Add to that their new cover of Riff Raff, that sounded pretty good too!
Re: Spaghetti Incident
Best songs on TSI....
No one realizes why it had such a lukewarm response? REALLY??
I think I do and it was never about the actual music. 20 years should have been enough for the stigma to pass. I'm kinda surprised it hasn't to a larger degree. For a covers album it's actually pretty fucking great. At least 70% of it is top notch, rest is good to average. I skip Leather and Power. Take out those for say Sailing and Gimme Danger and you got a classic.
Compare it to how Metallicas symphony fail was recieved. And they had been in a slump too. Difference was they retained their street cred. Axls antics were unfortunately why Guns didn't. People still give me shit about those boxer shorts of his.

Re: Spaghetti Incident
To me the problem with TSI was simply that the public wanted a new originals album by then...it had been years of the UYI tours and stuff...and at least over here it was promoted heavily as the new GNR album...
So joe public rolls up expecting UYI3 with Slash outdoing his estranged solo and Axl topping novermber rain...and they're confronted with an album of punk covers...where sometimes Axl doesn't even seem in the song...and random other bizzare stuff goes on (can anyone say Kazoo)
You go from the deep artistic expressions of UYI - from it's album title of "use your illusion" to thoughtful songs like locomotive/coma and whatever to an album of covers - with a name that's random and cover art that does nothing except rub in how odd the name was. I think the public just expected an entirely different approach.
But that said. I think it's a kickass album. The best songs on it to me are easily as good as anything else gnr recorded. You could easily sub one of the TSI covers for one of the covers on UYI and UYI would have been just as bad ass. So there's nothing wrong with this album. I think it deserves more love.

And the thing is... I actually really liked Metallica's S&M too.
