Re: Interesting Tidbit from Steven Tyler's autobiography
That's the thing. People have to weigh the pros and cons. Luckily my job is pretty flexible so I can adjust my hours accordingly if need be. But for someone who NEEDS to be home by midnight so they can get a good nights rest to get to work the next morning without being miserable, you may want to skip out on this one. People have to know that Axl is unpredictable, or maybe he's predictably unpredictable. But you have to expect just about anything when you get tickets for a GNR show.
I've seen them twice. The first time in 2002 in Hartford, CT. There was a bit of a wait, probably an hour or so, but it wasn't anything outrageous. And in 2006 at MSG they were right on time. Luckily someone in my party wanted to check out Papa Roach, otherwise we might've missed the start of the show.
So I've never had to deal with any of the shenanigans. Maybe I'd feel a bit more jaded if I did, but luckily that's not the case. The biggest disappointment I had was in 2002 I was going to Vegas for New Years and had PLANNED to see GNR out there. Luckily I got to see them in Hartford before they canceled the remaining dates a few nights later.

I still say that print the proper starting time to the tickets. If you say show starts at 8.00pm, then don't force them to wait for you till midnight. As soon as GN'R prints the 'starting time depends on the mood of the singer', I'm fien with that. Till it happens, there's only Axl to blame and not those who were fool enough to believe what the promoter and their ticket said.
Re: Interesting Tidbit from Steven Tyler's autobiography
I've noticed in some of the tweets from the band announcing the latest gigs they've made it a point of saying the shows will be from 10PM till 1AM. Is that to be taken seriously? A ballpark? Time Guns is PLANNING on hitting the stage? Wishful thinking?
Re: Interesting Tidbit from Steven Tyler's autobiography
It's their way of saying through an official source, exactly what we've been talking about.
GN'R ain't going on any earlier than 10pm, and due to curfew restrictions, shows won't last any later than 1am.
I'm actually shocked Axl has kept the shows as long as he has, considering other guys his age are usually trimming sets by this point.
I wouldn't be shocked if once the next leg kicks off that setlists will be trimmed to 15-16 songs, including encores, not including solos.
Re: Interesting Tidbit from Steven Tyler's autobiography
Yeah, curfews are not nearly as enforced outside the U.S. (at least to my knowledge), especially over there.
The U.S. city councils n' shit make SO MUCH money on citations and quotas, that writing tickets for breaking code enforcement brings in TONS of revenue for the cities, sometimes more than any other form of income.
So basically they just sit back licking their lips and drooling just waiting for Axl and a notorious curfew-breaking band like GN'R to break curfew laws, and them pounce like a lion on a zebra.
Axl's getting further and further removed from that "name power" and thus revenue stream. I don't think he can afford it anymore, or he takes it in the shorts so badly, he can't stand it anymore. I doubt his promoters are willing to take the hit anymore either.
