just saw this...pretty damn good. ElvisAxl standing still and singing is much better than ElvisAxl running around like a chipmunk!
Thats the best version I've heard, I watched a few of the vids from that show and he sounds fantastic! What is the deal with the sulking child act though, I know he was pissed off with missiles being thrown etc. but still... what a strange reaction.

I think there is a brilliance to slash.
Slash has something that other people don't seem to.
It's not technique...i can find you 5 bedroom players that can outshred him...but it's some kind of soul.
And it's not even just soul..plenty of guys play with soul...
It's beyond the normal meaning of that....It's almost truely spiritual....it doesn't always happen..and he's not the only one to do it.....but when he's on he sort of elevates things to a place that 95% of people can't. He was always going to be in a famous band for that reason.
He just captures something...it's like there is no slash there is only the sound of emotion...he's not playing the guitar he's just channeling the pure feeling the music was written about.
I think Axl has the same gift and that's why GNR was so fucking impressive. To me most of Axl's work - especially places in chinese democracy is about trying to take a state of mind or an emotion and translate it into a sound.

Slash is a brilliant player, I agree monkey, he does shit that will send chills down my spine... Estranged he has one of those moments... He typically lets his solos breathe and doesn't force too many notes in them, look at November Rain, just awesome.. And his ear is awesome, so he gets great note selection.

If it's any "extra addition", it's very possible Axl did quite a bit of cocaine during that show too.

speaking of crazy, I always get a kick out of reading interviews with Noel Gallagher from Oasis...on reunions and new albums from a reunited band...
"There's bands that say, "We don't want to get back together. We'd have to make a new record." Why? Fuck a new record. No one gives a shit about your new record. Play the fucking old ones. The Led Zeppelin guys are like, "There will have to be a new record." Really? Yeah, because that would be fucking great, wouldn't it? Play fucking "Whole Lotta Love." Get over it."

It's a pretty realistic statement. I think if GN'R got back together, everyone would love to get a Rock N' Roll Train rocker and Following The River-type ballad out of them for a reunion tour... but the reality is, people just want to see the wrongs righted, and to have the greatest rock band to ever exist, up there playing their favorites.
It makes them feel like, the world is gonna kill them less as quickly as they thought. Something zen-like about it.
