"My World" was of a very high standard? 14

From what I understand from the few "interviews" he has done since the launch of CD, it seems that the label have a rather large say in what kind of album GNR will release. I mean, seems like GNR can hand over an album, but the label can say: "Nah, I don't think this is the right album at the right time" or "the sound and feel of the recording is not good enough, lets try a different producer" or whatever... u know what I mean?

nice post...we don't know Axl's agenda and I think that is what is most frustrating for his fans. We have his Malibu Mafia trying to talk for him every now and then. But, we never really get a clear picture from the man himself as to what his personal goals are.:/

is it right to assume from his silence that he doesn't really care too much? is happy to let things carry on in the manner they have been?

what exactly is the problem with releasing new material?
is it getting it recorded? is it label involvement & the bitter rancour it stirs in axl? is it axl's lack of confidence/indecision?
like has been mentioned  in the prev two posts there is a host of cracker covers GnR could release as an EP over itunes next week & gain a bit of momentum & goodwill w/o axl having to expose himself too much..

what did axl mean exactly when he said CD wasthe album that was able to be pushed thru 'the red tape'? is there a host of legal hurdles in the way before they can release new material?

as always, there are hundreds of options availible to axl/GnR to get a bit of goodwill/momentum going again for the b(r)and but it's really just more of nothing happening until they get on stage @ RiR..

I just don't think the guy enjoys recording (and releasing) music anymore.  I think it is sort of combination of all of the above as you mentioned.

At some point (I'd say late 1990s-early 2000s) he was genuinely interested in restoring the GNR brand after the original guys all split.  But then after Bucket left, most of the activity pretty much stopped.  Maybe he needs to find another guitar player that inspires him to write and record music again.

I guess at this point in his life he is content with where things are, which means sporadic touring playing mostly the hits of 1987-1993, and staying at home at the Malibu compound.

On a slightly different tangent can't help but notice how far removed from the cd theme the current promo is for the sa tour. Perhaps they are making an effort to 'move on' from chinese democracy. About time in my opinion!

Are you are about that?  The poster I've seen looks like what we saw during the last Euro tour.

I havn't seen any of the art yet.

Not to read too much into things, but a new theme could be a good sign that they're planning new stuff eventually.

Honestly, I like My World. It clearly isn't a Gnr song but I think it is cool enough to have been a b-side to a single. I wouldn't have put it on the Illusions though. 16 But, then again, I would have dropped 8-9 other tracks as well.:/

GN'R have some stinkers (for GN'R standards), but i've yet to hear an unlistenable song.

Even though they've only got four albums, a cover album, and an EP... their catalog is pretty solid. Like at least 90% awesomeness.

But then again that's because they flamed out in their prime.

Had they been Rolling Stones II/Aerosmith II like so many predicted, you'd of probably got an album or at least an EP every couple of years, and by now you would've been at like a 50% quality range. imho

You're going to shoot me but I actually think it is.

I'll grant it was a wild excursion from traditional GNR style...but it seems well thought out as a concept for a song, the lyrics seem like a little window into the states of mind Axl is capiable of and various pressures messing with his mind - the choice of samples and the way they are edited in also seems to be relatively elabourate and constructed with some care.

I'm not saying anyone has to like every Axl song taste wise, but what I mean is that to me he puts a lot of craft into what he's doing. And he always has something to say - from "One In a Million" to "Civil War" to "Shotgun Blues" to "Catcher in the Rye".

I've never once heard him sing a song that seemed like he rushed it, or was going through the motions. To me on GNR theres no "album tracks" you know...sure some songs are better than others but they all seem very heartfelt and comming from very a real place....which is not something I see in every musican out there. So GNR's eccentricities aside...it's something I respect Axl for as a musican.
