Nothing to indicate?
They unvealed new songs every other time they played Rio (in Rio of course).
And before you say "yeah but they had albums coming out"... UYI still was still 8 months away, and CD was still at least a year away (from original intention), and ultimately 7-1/2 years.

2001 (already done so at Vegas and it was in the cards from the get-go).
There's been no talk of anything like that either.

yeah there's been loose refrences...
Axl mentioned same-bat time (even though that didn't happen it does show there's potential for the 2nd half of the 'double album')...bumble has refered to the existance of unheard material all be it while making clear he doesn't know about plans, and DJ seems to be actively writing stuff for the band..
None of those things amount to any kind of promice we'd get new material...but it does suggest that something exists...and it seems like an ideal moment to premier said material...however...I can understand why a lot of people are expecting nothing...as it's one thing for the songs to exist..and another entirely for this to be the moment they choose to share them.

play a SHITLOAD of "Use Your Illusion" songs to celebrate the 20th anniversary, including surprise appearences by Izzy & Duff, with Izzy performing Dust N' Bones & 14 Years, Duff performing So Fine, and all of them performing an 'off' song like You Ain't The First.
This is actually a great idea and I hadn't even thought of the anniversary. Play the hits from AFD, most of UYI, and the title track from CD.
Wont happen though. I've always thought UYI is being saved for a reunion. AFD has been played to death and the historic albums are a huge selling point for a potential reunion.
If not, it can't be any worse than following the Inland Invasion stream. I actually fell asleep on that one.
That show was a huge cluster fuck. Almost went and even though the show sucked, regret not going cause I'd love to have seen that train wreck in person. Mentioned this several times since the old site, but I watched that with a bunch of people and it immediately turned into a comedy. Me as the hardcore fan laughing at how the new songs were performed(Fortus on Madagascar was horrific) and everyone else laughing at the old songs. Possibly Finck's worst show.

Great point, and i've actually never really analyzed that aspect of it. I mean a one-off Illusion-centric anniversary show ain't gonna be a big deal, but I can certaintly see why Axl might hold that in his back pocket.
If the new band taps every single aspect of the GN'R catalog, it'll be a total anti-climax to hear Slash play Estranged again, after we've heard DJ play it for two years staight on the next cash grab tour.
And yes Inland Invasion was a total fuckin' joke. I remember staying up for that one on the east coast, and it was terrible. Robin, Ron & Richard - the trifecta of suck - all fuckin' blew - and Axl's voice was shot after the European tour. He sounded like 2002 Axl. He sounded alot more restored and rested when I saw him a couple months later.

I would HOPE for some new material. I mean with DJ's recent mentions about working on new material, to the fact they'll be playing shows in the same region they played just last year. It would seem like the logical move. But who knows really. I could see it going either way. Ever the optimist that I am though, I'll say we will here a FEW new songs. My question would be, do we hear them BEFORE RIR at one of the warmup shows, or do they wait for the main event?
Or I'm wrong, and we get the same old setlist which I never even got to see played live because they refuse to tour the US.

They might to an acoustic show in LA somewhere, but my guess is they'll just pop up at Rio.
And the more time that goes on without any real rumblings and evidence of something moving, the more likely they'll just come in and play a Rock Am Ring 2006 setlist. Like 16 songs, and then they take off for ANOTHER hiatus.

Well they've got two shows after Rio on the schedule so far in Chile and Argentina. So far nothing prior. So maybe they will test out new material at Rio and continue onward.
OR, it could just be a cash grab. I assume Rio is a huge payday for them, and while they're there they might as well do a few more shows to make even more cash. Obviously, that's the pessimistic view, but it could certainly be the case. I would think we'd know a little more towards the end of the summer/beginning of fall. But then again, you never know with this band.
