Scott was always the weak link.

He's giving Perla way too much power.

I don't know, man. I'm sure Scott had major attitude, but one of the biggest killer of bands is the wives/girlfriends and Perla seems like the type that would consider herself part of the band and try to make decisions. Wasn't she trying to be manager at one point?

I remember a Slash interview (on Stern) once where he said that his wife/gf at the time of GNR was a problem.

Yeah, Perla made Scott a junkie and an alcoholist again, who couldn't sing a note properly and wasn't able to get on stage in time, or doing a whole tour. Not to mention that she took VR to a softer direction and nixed everything that sounded 'GNRish' from day one.

Perla is a very strong woman, I agree, and addicted to money and fame. She wants to drive Slash, but sometimes she can, sometimes not. She doesn't have the best effect on Slash's decisions and career moves, but blaming her for the VR break-up is ridiculous, especially that it took 3 years for Scott to make up this story.

also Perla described VR as 'not my husband's best work' which may have pissed of Scott who figured Libertad was the next Exile on main St.

Perla seems like a fucking pain in the ass of a wife to me; loud, agressive and fame hungry but maybe she is the reason Slash is back on fire and relevant again.

I'm sure the truth of it is somewhere in the middle.

Scott has always been a junkie and tensions in VR for whatever reason probably contributed to his relapse. But at the end of the day it's him using the needle.

Meanwhile perla is clearly a strong woman - and as a general principle of busisness - spouses getting involved in the business can really make life hard. I mean a band is already a partnership - then you start getting input from non-partners who have additonal weight in their views because people who are partners are in love with them and or have to live with the consequences of angering them at home. And it creates problems in any business. So i'm sure there's an element of her getting involved and to a degree it's probably messing with the other guys.

But then...I get the impression that every single one of the VR guys has their own deamons and at times is pretty hard to work with.

Let's face it - without scott they still can't agree on a new singer/direction it seems - and right now Slash is entirely AWOL for the foreseeable future from VR.

Then again..Mikka makes some good points...Scott has always had problems, and it was obvious from the outset he had an issue with Slash's writing style. (see for example his comments that he had 2 full CD's of Slash/Izzy riffs and found 1 decent song in them or something like that - hard to believe!)

Faldor probably has a better take on this since I don't have sirius, but Scott was on Howard Stern today and apparantly blames VR breaking up on Perla. And then everyones wives got involved with the band.

I tape the Stern show and have been busy this week, so I haven't gotten to Scott's interview yet.  I did see and hear that he was on though.  The whole interview is on youtube if you want to check it out.  He talks about VR right out of the shoot.
