Re: Chinese Democracy now $1.99
They'll never crack down on downloaders. Sorry, but that's something that will never happen, at least not in our lifetimes, unless all musicians just boycott and take up a day job and do something they're more qualified at like, changing oil in cars, or memorizing the lyric of "welcome to Red Lobster, how many in your party?"
For every anti-pirate technology that the music industry has come up with, hackers have circumvented it within seconds of touching it. Lawsuits and fear of prison time barely even made a dent, so much that the court system gave up on even hearing it, thus forcing the RIAA to give up on pursuing it.
Nah, I think that shipped has sailed big time. There will always be the existence of illegal downloading in the market place. The better question is, how will you measure true success by combining all downloads, both legal and illegal. That's really the true measure of interest/success in an artist.

I don't think it's going to be as easy as you think. That they're just going to roll over and accept it. I can't really speak for the music industry, but I know the movie industry is getting their shit together on how to combat downloaders and the next few years you'll start seeing a bigger crackdown. The biggest thing the film industry is dealing with is pirated DVD's. And they're gearing up to deal with that, also.
I'm telling you, enjoy it wide spread availability while you can. It will always be there, but there will be a counter to it.
Re: Chinese Democracy now $1.99
It's $4.02 with shipping...I'm going to hold out a little longer or until I can visit a store.
Probably a smart move, shipping being more than the album itself. Might as well save the $2 and get it in person. It really is a great deal for ANY CD. I mean I'd buy a ton of CD's if they were $1.99. I'll probably get 5 copies or so and give them to friends, whether they want it or not. In the off chance GNR ever tours the US again, then they'd at least have CD to brush up on the new material if they cared to. Hell, it'd only be $10 out of my pocket.
