agreed bono and i do think that speaking of SA yes imo they could just use his name and it would still be the same. i still think by years of NOT defending himself. holed up. letting the piler onners pile on and general public and media getting an even more pre concieved notion. this thread like most others here makes ya reflect on everything. all the why's and what-if's

While i'd be all for stuff happening, I don't really see that one gig being scheduled in South America is a sign of a USA tour or a new CD release or anything else - I just see it as a sign that Axl wants to play RIR.

That festival seems to have always held a special place for the band and for fans of the band even - with several notable peformances over the years. I would take it on face value - that the modern band simply wants to add to that legacy and enjoy the amazing atmosphere of headlining a show like that.

I mean maybe it's part of a broader integrated strategy to release other products or whatever, and I'd jump at the chance if it is, but I also think it could easily be just something awesome for the band to do for it's own sake.

With any luck this will be streamed or proshot somehow and we'll get a lasting boot of the peformace ala RIR3.

I think at this point, monkey, when Axl does a show, tours and such now, it's to fund recording. So that can be seen as a good thing.

Plus, this festival seems to have a special place for and to him. And seeing them play live, or doing anything at this point, is a real good sign smile

Yeah, that's true. The man can still do stadiums down there, even with the new Guns.

Does THE MAN still do stadiums down there or does the Guns N' Roses name still do the stadiums. I'm so curious to see how well he'd actually do simply as Axl Rose yet we'll never know cause he hides/uses/is entitled to or whatever he does with the Gn'R name.

Can't say for sure, but it's obvious South America is nuts for anything and everything GNR/rock related.  Hell, Steven Adler went there and picked himself out a hot wife who was a crazed GNR fan, years after he was ousted from the band.  I'm not sure Slash would sell out stadiums like current GNR, but I'm sure he'd do quite well.  South Americans just love their rock and roll, and for the most part they could care less who is or isn't in the band.  It doesn't just go for GNR either.  God bless them, that's the way it should be.

I agree with you. There are a lot of problems with the US Market, i.e. Live Nation, for GnR. This seems like something to keep the light on and the band in good form in the hope that something gets sorted out in the meantime.

Hopefully, I am wrong, but perhaps we can get a small venue gig out of this as a warm up.

It would nice to get Bucket back too. bucket

If we are evaluating probabilities, there is a hell of alot better chance of the latter than the former.

Well at least this RiR thing is some positive news albeit it a long way further off.  At least it appears the band is still together and something is still happening.  Hopefully more stuff - music/concerts will follow.

I think it's a combo of different things. SA LOVES Guns N' Roses. They just love them, period. It goes far more specific than just 'rock'. GN'R really have a special place in the hearts of the fans down there.

rose22 is right in that, I do believe, in SA's case (and only SA) that Axl Rose could tour as Axl Rose and sell out stadiums. SA is just insane for Axl, to a point that even I as a GN'R fan and Axl fan sort of scratch my head.

I had a teacher once, nice guy, who was Peruvian and split his time between Peru and Miami. I mentioned during a school project that my favorite music artist was Guns N' Roses. The dude flipped and went total school-girl like fanatical about it. He was totally won over by me, simply for mentioning that, and not only was he doing it about GN'R, but specifically Axl.

The guy just has a hold on the people down there - they LOVE him.

I also believe though, like dave, that if VR was called Guns N' Roses, they could do stadiums down there too.
